Guys im posting this in the hopes that someone will be able to help or spread the news to fellow beachgoers in the area..
from an aquairists point of view we caych alot of fish in this area and its not at all fun to swim past condoms and sanitary pads that have bypassed the filtration process and just pumped straight out into the sea..
we (East Londoners specifically) need to do something about this as it is now getting out of controll..
i am tired of suffering from ear and other infections from surfing there.. it is a radical wave to ride the one of the best the country has to offer.
so please pass on tell your neighbours and save the beach for future generations.. see the e-mails that have been flowing below and if possible join the facebook page in support of what we are trying to achieve..

The time has come for action , Nahoon and other affected ward Rate payers need to boycott rates until the funds are allocated to the intended projects not talk and corruption .
Once again signs are nonchalantly posted all over Nahoon Beach By the BCM that they pumped raw sewage into our ocean. This has to be stopped by force now!
This ward is a DA represented ward please advise what you are doing to rectify the Sewage "Ticking Time Bomb" here as highlighted in the Weekend Post Expose Front page Headline on Saturday 14 Aug.
This is an illegal activity according to national environmental laws and has been reported to the green scorpions ( who seem to have very little sting in their tail as far as local government is concerned.I am sure international laws are also being contravened here and if need be the governing bodies will be alerted. ) East London , tourism and all residents are the losers here as well as our marine Eco system as a whole which is already severely compromised.

Hi All The situation with raw sewerage coming down the Nahoon River is quite sick and revolting. Unfortunately it is not just the ratepayers that suffer, but everybody that uses the river and beach. A ratepayer boycott will not be successful unless the
whole of Nahoon joins the initiative, and I do not think that everybody would do that. Unfortunately not
In my opinion we need EVERYBODY to object, and we need to enter into some kind of dialogue with the Municipality/relative department, however painstakingly difficult that may be.
Some action that is representative of ratepayers AND every user of Nahoon Beach should be embarked on. Maybe a meeting on the beach one afternoon with a PA loudspeaker system and an open mic for everybody to say their say (Surfers/paddlers/ratepayers etc) and with the Daily Dispatch present?
Imagine some Municipal manager comes into my restaurant, and I serve him a
turd on a plate! Can you imagine his disgust as he takes the first bite? That is exactly what they are doing to us, but we are expected to swallow and smile
Look at all the damage that all that human waste is doing to sea life in one of the worlds best surf spots and one of the most pristine and beautiful reefs in the world. I have also heard of German tourists packing up and leaving for PE (Yesterday) when they heard of the human waste on Nahoon Beach!
Somebody needs to be fired. Somebody must be held responsible!
Enough is enough!!!

Dear Fellow beach goers and East Londoners ,
My boys and I surf. We also live in Gonubie. I am behind Llewllyn 100%.
I am the idiot who started the All roads lead to Gonubie campaign. I have been down this road , as it were. I am keen to help you with our plight.
The Gonubie road ! I tackled this with great help from the Daily Dispatch. If you contact the Daily Dispatch , they will set you up with a Blog for your campaign. This is an online forum where we can all discuss the problem. This is open to everyone to have their say , and read others point of view.
With the road , I went the diplomatic route. I did the Dispatch thing , and then I contacted all the people in charge at the Traffic department , provincial roads , DA counselors ( John Cupido , Roy Engelbeck ). Suffice it to say , that the diplomatic route does not work ! I was then going to embark on a tough route . Which was illegal. I was warned to back off. The whole campaign was chewing up my time and energy , and I have a business to run. So I threw in the towel. Gonubie carries on sitting in traffic every evening for 1 hour. I Failed. But , I did learn a lot.
Sewerage !! From my experience with the Road , I suggest that we go straight to the Tough Route . And I would go about it as follows :-
1. Call a meeting and plan a way forward. Fast ! We need someone with spare time to run and manage the campaign.
2. Contact Tegan at The Daily Dispatch
email
teganb@dispatch.co.za Direct number 0437022077 . Tegan will set up a blog site for the campaign. Tegan will also arrange articles in the paper drawing attention to our Blog site and our plight. She will also arrange photographers and reporters to follow the story etc
2. We get every surfer , paddler , life saver , beach goer on any craft they can find , sitting behind the back line , at sea , with clothes pegs on our noses. Picture in the dispatch and on our Blog site , hell we could even get Derek Watts to join us from Carte Blanche !!
3. All our Children wont be going to school soon because of the strike. Maybe we could get all our Kids to defecate on the steps of the City hall !!! Okay , that may be a bit extreme
BUT , maybe we need to get this extreme to get something done !
4. At Haga Haga / Marshstands , we have set up a trust account which all the rate payers pay their rates into. This is set up legally. Rates are not paid to the Komga Municipality. Out of these funds improvements to services ( Run Privately ) are paid. Diane Williams set this all up and controls it. She has done a phenomenal job. This has been running for about 2 years now , with great success. This has been done in many municipalities , I believe. Why can we not set this up for Nahooners ?? From these funds we could tackle the sewerage problem ourselves.
On the 28th and 29th August , Nahoon reef will be hosting the Mr Price Pro Open surfing compo. The best senior and junior surfers , from all over South Africa , will be converging on Nahoon reef. What great exposure for our town. Supersport television crews and professional photographers will be here. Events like this boost our little economy. Hotels , bed and breakfasts , shops etc. What an embarrassment if the event is called off because our water is brown !!!!
Any Help , input needed , please contact me , I am IN !!!
Regards
