Please could you promote the following to anyone interested in the environment, research, museums and herpetology in particular?
Bayworld will be actively promoting the work that is done here with interesting activities on Sunday 19th September and on the Friday public holiday on 24th September. They will be great opportunities to share the excitement of the Museum with children, grandchildren and friends and to support the Museum. There is a special evening lecture on Monday 20th September. Details will be available in the newspaper closer to the time.
To promote the work done by the herpetologists the following lectures will give participants an insight into some of the field trips undertaken to remote areas in search of new and exciting discoveries.

10.15Experiences of a Herpetologist Presentation by Prof Bill Branch, Herpetologist at the PE Museum, a world leader in the field of reptiles and amphibians. He has published numerous scientific and popular books and articles including his widely used Field guide to snakes and other reptiles of southern Africa. Bring along your copy of his publications for signing by the author.

12.00In Search of Lost Frog Species, illustrated presentation on a Frog Collection Expedition in Hogsback by Werner Conradie.
In the month of September and October Conservation International (a world organization that works to ensure a healthy and productive planet for us all) is sending researchers across the world in an unprecedented search to rediscover species of lost amphibians - animals considered potentially extinct but that may be holding on in a few remote places. It is the ultimate Search for the Lost Frogs. Port Elizabeth Museum Natural Scientist, Werner Conradie, will lead a local team of researchers into the Amotala Mountains in search of the critically endangered Amatola Toad, last seen in 1998. Frogs play a key role in ecosystem and keeps it healthy. Will he be successful in finding this frog? What else will they find? Join us at Bayworld on 24 September at 12:00 noon, for an up to date illustrated report on this exercise and hear about what is happening in the ever shrinking environments of amphibians of the world.
20th - at the Museum a special evening lecture
Public Lecture New Places & New Species by Prof Bill Branch Herpetologist
Finding and naming new species is a Scientist's dream. During the last 10 years, on explorations in the mountains of Mozambique and the rocky deserts of Namibia and Angola, Bill Branch has discovered over 20 new species of snakes, tortoises, chameleons and geckos. He shares the excitement of these discoveries, the new techniques used to identify new species, and the intricacies of naming them.
