Ask the Audience: Nano Cubes?

I'd like to ask the audience on this one. Its not often you hear someone say they've got too much time on their hands, but here I am. I've always admired a small colourful Nano Cube. Although you don't get to stock with the larger species its convenience and compact design make it attractive.

What are the things you consider to be important on your nano and what would you like done better.

So far I've come up with a 500 x 500 x 500 cube, with a skinny overflow and some returns doubling as the CLS, if you will. I'd guess 1 x 150w MH with some Blue LED's for colour enhancement. Recirc Skimmer plumbed off the overflow into a return and back.

The efficacy of a DSB in such a small area concerns me and thus I'm leaning towards a great emphasis on water changes. Yes they are tedious and irritating but inevitabily the best way of nutrient export. A scrubber is another option but is the trade off in the amount of evaporation/top ups vs buying/mixing Salt really all the different, benefit of the salt is a refreshing of the calcium/alk etc.

Any advise would be greatly valued. :thumbup:

Hi Guys,

Some really nice LPS, SPS + some softies landed yesterday:yeahdude:, unfortunately none of the acropora I ordered landed :(

Here are some pics of what landed - pics taken with my phone so not cool but will upload the pics I took with my camera tonight (forgot my card reader at home).

time frame for disease's and their spreading

Hi All,

I think one way to help fight disease or help fish in QT is if we could now the time frame of the disease's. I know some lay dorment and the water and fish's health plays the big part, but I think it will be helpful with some disease's like brook and velvet, say a fish has been in QT for 10 days, you can likly rule out brook, because the fish would probably be dead in say 4 days (4 days, is that correct for brook?)

There is some exceptions, eg. a fish has been sitting in an lfs for a few days with the disease, and the sysmptoms would only start showing the day after you got the fish, but general timeframe of disease's spreading?

What time frame have you had with disease's on fish, and when the symptoms started showing.

I am looking for some coral (encrusting type) that'll overgrow rocks- NOT Something growing outwards like plating Montis.

Please post pics as well as the real names so I can do some research.

Eggcrate in Centurion, Midrand or Pretoria

Does anybody know where to get eggcrate in Centurion, Midrand or Pretoria?

I've tried the following places:

Builder's Warehouse - Didn't know what is was, also asked for light diffuser, air grate, etc.
Ferreira's Hardware - Also didn't know what it was
Voltex - The guy said I should try an aircon shop, but the aircon people sell prefabricated vents.
Maizey's - Don't stock it.

I eventually found Plasticworld and they sell it (excellent price), but getting there and back is like a 100km round trip (they're in Selby, JHB).

If possible I'd prefer to get black eggcrate, but due to it being so hard to source I'm not picky :)
Pump startup current draw

Hey guys.

I am looking for some more advice from the electrical guys. How many times more would the startup load be with a submersible pump than its normal rated wattage. I have a lifeteck AP4660 which takes 145W. What type of startup load are we looking at.

This is apparently important when choosing in inverter according to a salesman that I am having issues with. He says a 145W pump can not run off of a 350W inverter with a surge rating of 700W since the startup load of the pump is around 6 times more than the normal rated wattage.

Any way how I can test the startup load of a pump?
