Has any one manage to create a wave with the Aqua-Medic OceanProp 15000 L pump.
Hows this for a MAC quality new fish

Got this fish yesterday at the Durban airport, coming from a Cape town LFS, at 8:15pm, got home at 10pm, and started acclimitising till 1am. Put it in the qt tank, with all my other fish. I walked past the QT this morning at 7am, and my emp went mad when it recognised me, I had been away for a few days, it was splashing water at the surface, so of course I fed the emp a few pellets. The queen had been in the tank for about 6 hours and probably ate more pellets than all the other fish combined!!!! It nearly ate nori out my hand lunch time, tommorrow I know it will eat nori out my hand. If I ever had a fish that I would not QT, it would be this fish, but neverless, I will always QT all my fish, it is currently in QT with my other fish. But from now on, I will only buy these MAC approved fish, and this fish has also been carted around to a fish show over the last weekend.

The pics may look like it has w/s, but it is dirt on the glass.

Check how fat this fish is!!!

Proof is in the pudding, check it eating, this pic was taken 21 hours that it's been in the qt.

Well, its been 10 days and I took my screen out for its 1st cleaning. Here's what it looked like. Not bad for 10 days. Have noticed a definite drop in nutrients as well as cyano on my sand bed (both DT and DSB).

So far I'm pretty happy with the performance.

For those interested - I am ONLY running 2 x 20W CFL bulbs (4000K) about 5cm from the screen. When I'm done there will be 5 bulbs running. I just havent had time to finish it yet.
Water change and dosing

I was thinkin,I have been using fauna marine ultra bio and ultrabak on
My DT with great results.
I'm doing a waterchange 2moro and was thinkin when doin that is it ok to
Dose the fauna afterwards?coz then the skimmer will be off for few hours.
Thing I'm worried about is it ok to not have skimmer on just after a water change?

Another is it ok to have ur hands in the tank just after dosing the bacteria or will it interfe sumhow?or will ur
Skins oil react to it negativly?

Hi guys

I can now finally start planning and slowley get this tank up and running.

Im sitting with two options:

3210 x 1200 x 700mm - 2696Liters- water volume at level= 2580L

or

3210 x 1500 x 700mm - 3370Liters- water volume at level = 3274L

Filter will be the following:

Skimmer: Reef Octopus cone XP8000EX or x2 Reef Octopus cone XP5000Internal

x3 N/P pellet reactors

Inmates: Large angel setup:thumbup:

Hi guys, need some advise

As an aditional export mechanism above my current dsb and Bio Pellet reactor, I am thinking of installing an algae scrubber.

The catch is, I want it in sump, with no extra pumps etc. so have 2 options in my opinion - feeding it from my overflow, or from one of the existing mechanisms in my tank - from here then my question.

Do you think I could use the outflow from my biopellet canister (using a ORP1000 pump) to feed my ATS?

the drawback on this is that my outflow would then no longer be directly in front of my skimmer, as is recommended, but would flow over my ATS, through my macro algae and some liverock then over my dsb and returned to the display

Technically I see no problem in doing this, but I am thinking about the biological implications in this - having the "waste" from the Bio Pellet run over the algae scrubber etc through the tank.

Any ideas on this?

Dripping a Shrimp

Hi guys I bought a Fire Shrimp and driped it for an hour their after i put it in my tank about an hour later it was dead[IMG]http://***********************/forum/images/smilies/yikes.gif[/IMG] so i phoned the lfs where i bought it and they told me that i was suposed to drip it for 24 houers. [IMG]http://***********************/forum/images/smilies/huh.gif[/IMG] Ive never heard of this. If so how do i do it if i am working?

Can someone shed some light on this subject?

my tank

thought i would let you guys know that my first marine tank is just about ready. eventually i am planning to keep corals and fish.
so this is what i have so far:
the tank is a standard 4ft (1220 x 450 x 450) with corner overflow and 50mm outlet with standard 3ft tank as the sump. the sump is a 3 part sump, 1st skimmer(reeftek ts2), 2nd dsb, 3rd return(resun king-2a 1500l/h). i got my father to build the cabinet stand and canopy, the stand has been galvanized and painted with hammer tone the cabinet and canopy is made out of knotty pine. lighting i have so far is 1x reeftek 12000k 4ft t5 tube and 1x reeftek antic 4ft t5 tube. for flow in the tank i have 3 x sun sun 3000l/h vibration pumps. i have stuck blue vinyl on the back of the tank and blue perspex on the overflow box.

what i still need:
i still need to do the plumbing for the overflow and return.
im still waiting for araganite and need to get some live rock once the tank is ready.
i plan on getting another 6 4ft t5 tubes ( 1 blue and 5 1000k-12000k) once i start stocking the tank. i don't have reflectors for the lights but i am going to make a diy reflector and see how it comes out. and i still need to get an ro unit. a chiller at a later stage once i want to keep corals. and some test kits.

is there anything else i still need?

i will post pics of the tank later and of the reflectors once i have made them.
Suggestions on t5 lights with 150w 14000k metal halide

Can someone help me with light suggestions.
My Tanks size:
918L x 520H x 605W
Running a 150w 14000k Metal Halide

I like the blue look but crisp

So i was thinking of two t5 39w actinic blues plus the halide
Will this be ok

Corals at the moment sps, lps and softies

I have to say, this is web site Rocks!!! :yeahdude:
Have personally lost hours no its more like days reading all different threads on the site the past month or two.

So here is my aquarium: Boyu TL450, was given to me by someone who no longer had time to look after it about 3 moths ago. All pretty much standard still, but it will not stay that way for long, I love to DIY things. Already removed the ceramic rings and bio balls and replaced it with small pieces of LR that can fit into the return section.
Still lots of DIYing and mods to be done here.

Currently stock is 2 false peculiar clowns, 1 turbo snail and LR and lots of red mushroom polyps.

hi guys, i posted a thread a few weeks ago about spagetti worms ... and every one said they are good guys.

well, my tank is going more and more back wards, and i dont know what any more.

question, i saw a long, legged insect or something, almost like a small 'oorkruiper' ... are they good or bad ?
