i want something of a decent size............

Can I add salt

Been running RO unit for 30hours now and DT is nearly half full.....was wondering if i could start to add salt now as one circ. pump is covered and already running and then adjust salinity as the tank and sump fill up .Estimate another 2 days before all is filled.....or should i rather wait until everything is filled the add salt....would there be any difference...(damn RO unit is sooooo sloooow..:(:yeahdude:
Advice on skimmer

Hi guys.

Really need some help.

I have just ordered my first marine tank and really excited about it:yeahdude:.

The tank is a 5ft tank holding about 640lts and I dont have much space under the dt for sump. The guy at the shop is selling me a queen ts 2000 because of the size under the tank. Based on what i have read that skimmer is to small for that size tank. I would like to have a reef tank with fish and corals.

What Skimmer would you recommend for that size tank?
Im not really keen on a external skimmer.

My Tank Is Running

I finally, with help from ROBERTKUKLA and ANIMALIA have got my tank up and running. I now still have a 4ft display tank with corner overflow. My sump consists of a re-skimmer, ATS, DSB and Carbon filter. Everything is now set up and the wait can now begin before I add live stock.

Hi there ppl

I got myself n 5000L/H power head extra now for the tank.
I also got a spair heater wich i will use when i prepare the water in n plastic bucket for the water changes.

I also got some ruber tubing and a little choke valve for when i get new fish for acclimatizing them.

Auto aircon setup

Hi all.
What do I need to buy in order to set my tank up and link it to a aircon unit. So as temp increases the aircon switches on automatically and when temp is back to target range is switches off again. Thanks, any and all suggestions welcomed.
Blackout to combat cyano?

I have quite a lot of cyano at the moment. It is all over the rocks etc and is starting to grow on the corals as well. I have read that a 3 day blackout can be used to get rid of it since the bacteria does not get any light to photosynthesize. Would the corals be ok with this? I have mainly mushrooms, zoas, a picushion, frogspawn, ancora coral, plate and doughnut coral. Only have 1 SPS in there, its a green slimer.

I dont want to go the chemical route so i want to start with this first. Will skim wet during this period to get rid of the bacteria as they die. I will be doing a 25% water change before and then after as well.

What do you guys think? Could this work and will the corals be ok? I want to do a total blackout with black sheeting.

Hi there ppl

Man did i get a fright just now.
I fed the fish this morning and didnt see anything.

Later i went back to the tank after breakfast then i saw what seemed to be a dead hermit.

Very unhappy does not even describe what i felt.
But then i counted the hermits.
4 hermits and they all seem to be alive.

Then i knew it was only the old skin.
What a relieve.

Here is some pics.

Here is also some pics of the back of my tank.
Some ppl on masa said i might have to put in a fan in the bottom of the sump.
Because im gona close it up with wooden panels.

Already done the sides just need doors.
this cap at the back of the tank is about 100mm so i think it should be ok for evaperation.
Let me know what you think fellow masa ppl.
