keeping angels in a reef

Howzit guys i need some opinions from anybody with experience with keeping angels and corals, i added a P.Navarchus and a P.Diacanthus to my reeftank, so far they both eating prepared food and have not touched the coral at all (sps, lps and softies), will they remain this way or is there a chance that i may wake up one morning and find that everythings been eaten?

Gardinoseris planulata is a coral species which we have admired for over a decade from the scant images that were then available to view in the Coral of Australia and the Indo-Pacific. Like many of our favorite corals species from the Agaricia, Pavona and Leptoseris coral genera, Gardinoseris is a member of the family Agariciidae which includes many intricately detailed stony corals.
Gardinoseris is extremely rare in the aquarium hobby even though the species was available maricultured for a time several years back. However, Gardinoseris was so poorly known then that there was an underwhelming lack of demand for the maricultured specimens and we haven’t seen one in an LFS since about 2007.
Thankfully the producers of Coral Hub and the underwater dive guide on coral ID has updated their website with an entire page on the unique Gardinoseris coral, and there’s a handful of great photos to demonstrate how unique this coral is, and how unusual it can look when grown out. If you have some experience with Gardinoseris in captivity or if you’ve seen some available more recently please share in the comments.

At a recent belated holiday party, Jim Grassinger of The Filter Guys (perhaps familiar to readers for their RO/DI systems) gave us a sneak peek at a new design for ceramic frag plugs by The Alternative Reef.* The new style of ceramic plugs, as well as a new Filter Guys frag glue, are both due for release next month.
As most Reef Builders readers are well aware, ceramic frag plugs require no pre-soaking to eliminate unwanted pH increases that can occur with other non-cured, non-ceramic plugs.* Initial durability testing (aka. dropping them on the floor accidentally) suggests these will hold up just fine.* These plugs are also “Made in the USA”.* No word yet on price, but we’ll revisit the new plugs, and the new glue, next month!

Im struggling with algae. info on my tank. Ive got a 128 litre fish only tank for now. Gonna going into corals and stuff later. Its about a year old. Im using a sponge filter in first section,t(compartment,whatever you call it)then the water runs through phosguard purigen and activated carbon which i change every month or so,3rd section ive got a skimmer which is working fine.Ive also got 10 bio balls and 3 bags of ceramic rings. Ive got about a 1700 litre ph flow rate in my tank(a pump and a mp250 flow pump aligned on the live rock. I changed the positioning often). ive got 15kg of live kenyan rock and 3 kg of base rock which is starting to show signs of coraline growth. I am really struggling with brown and green hair algae and i have been trying everything for 2 months to get rid of it. if anyone can help ill be gratefull coz im on the verge of giving up. the itch is another nail in the coffin for me. my water parametres are all fine. here they are : (no3 - 10mg/l) , (no2 - omg/l) , (ca - 440mg/l) , (kh - 7d) , ( ph - 7.7) . Im dosing with magnesium,strontium and calcium weekly except for the calcium which i do every second week. its from advanced ultra formula series. I use natural sea water which show no signs of no3 and the rest of the parametres seem fine with that water.I mix it with ro/di water to get the right salinity. I also do a 10% water change weekly. ive just done 2 20% the last week. Ive got 5 baby clowns(largest one 3 cm, 1 tomato clown, a dottyback, a keyhole angel. 2 turbo snails,had 2, 2 died(dont know why) and 4 starfish. please please help. Ive tried everything on the internet and from all the lfs i could see and email but im still battling with that disgusting stuff....sorry about the long post. -

Hey guys. Ive got a mp 250 flow pump and on the back of it there is a little blue l shaped pipe Im unsure of what it is doing. if i put a piece of pipe into that and let it hang out of the tank,will it give me more into the tank or does anyone know what that blue pipe thingy is for. -

Pomacentrus cheraphilus is a species of damselfish which was recently described from specimens collected in Brunei and the Phillipines.* Gerald R. Allen, Mark V. Erdmann and Vincent V. Hiloman described Pomacentrus cheraphilus in the first issue of Aqua published this year. Like other Pomacentrus, P. cheraphilus grows to a modest size of up to 2.5 inches (6cm) and it has a juvenile stage with a much more attractive yellow body and blue facial stripes.

Urgent help needed Regal tang with hazy swolen eye.

Hi ladies and gents.
Got home just now and saw my regals' one eye's milky and slightly swolen. I'm not sure if it's pop-eye or something? I won't be too amazed if the guy hurt himself exploring. He likes going where no fish has gone before.
But on a serious note. He's still very active, eating like a pig and got his colour.
This is the best shot I managed to get of his eye. (Had to use the flash so everything's a bit bright. I've got virtually no experience with fish illness so any advise will be much appreciated.
I've had him for a couple of months now.

Royal Exclusiv has just released specifications on their Red Dragon 3 speedy variable speed brushless DC pumps. These new pumps are actually an entirely new series called “Speedy” and they incorporate major improvements over other generations of Red Dragon pumps. For starters the inside magnetic lining of the pump is made of up of pure titanium, the common “O-rings” have been replaced with the “bearings made of advanced technical ceramics”. There is a Titanium-coated, laser-welded high performance NdFeB Magnet and there are no electronics located inside the pump. Royal Exclusiv says they have been tested the RD3 Speedy series for over a year now and it has finally passed testing. These pumps are advertised to be 100 percent made in Germany and with that tag you’ll pay a few more dollars euro. These will start shipping soon with a retail of 599 euro ($802).

Hi guys, this is just to say thanks to all who helped me and to show you guys how things are going so far... (yes lots of pics )
My 1st tank was a disaster, more like a mass murder and nothing lived not even the snails , it was all over just 4weeks after set-up, and so,
I called it a day and gave up the hobby completely, so that there would still be some fish left in the ocean for you guys.
One and half years later I came across a 1.3m by 450 by 500 for only____________________wait for it___________________500bucks !!! and it was an empty marine tank !!!
So, I thought id give it a shot one more time, to prove to myself that I can do it. But this time I had MASA behind me !!! Thanks to Llewellyn who was my inside man when I wasnt a member and The Waterboy for answering all my question and offering great advice and products.
So just remember guys, I am still new at this and im sure things will get much better this year as I plan on customizing this set-up as well as adding all the cool goodies and equipment that I need. So keep an eye out for updates.
Once again, for all the help keeping my fish alive for more than 4weeks .going on 7 months now and things are very stable with amazing growth in corals and fish.
please note that for some reason the camera is not capturing all of the colors correctly

Firstly let me begin by saying that this thread is by no means meant to upset or insult anyone who collects marine animals as I love my little Sun Sun tank and all the remaining critters inside it :whistling:
Anyways the reason for this post is I am very involved in the anti-Rhino poaching campaign which is currently being lead by John Robbie from 702 Talk Radio. Long story short as South Africans we are appalled each time we hear about a Rhino being shot for its horn right :032:
This is the worst kind of poaching we have experienced in South Africa for a long time. My point is if we get upset about poaching here in South Africa then why do we not get upset when new "shipments" of "stock" arrive at our local fish stores :001_huh:
What I am trying to say is this "stock" which comes from overseas, are they bred there or are they removed out of their natural habitats? If they are being removed from their natural habitats and kept alive to be sold in South Africa and other countries then surely that is a form of poaching? By removing them we are creating a smaller gene pool as most of these animals will never see another one of its kind or be able to breed and repopulate our oceans? Are we aiding a form of poaching in either Indonesia or Kenya as examples.
Using live rock as an example and when I bought mine for my tank I noticed how the pieces were basically chiseled away from larger pieces. What do the rock formations look like where they are from? How many more years can this industry continue if we are importing such large quantities of other countries natural resources? Do the local population in those countries bemoan the fact that we as marine keepers in foreign countries are stealing their natural resources like the Chinese are stealing our Rhino horns? Another example would be the 1500 African Grey parrots which died on route from Durban to Johannesburg. These parrots were originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and were removed as babies from their natural habitat. Does anyone else think this might eventually be the death of the pet industry if we continue raping indigenous populations in order to establish either breeding colonies here in South Africa or merely sell the "stock" to the avid pet keeper?
Again please do not think I am trying to make anyone else feel bad. This is my own personal opinion and my own personal dilemma which I need to work through. I merely wanted you guys to share your opinions please :blush: -

SunSun Pumps falling???????

Hi guys. I have bought a 5000L sun sun pump for my 400L malawi tank. It works like a charm with a nice wide water stream. It only 2 weeks old. It fell once. How do you guys use these pumps to get the best flow? Is it advisable to move the pump around once it's stuck with the suction cups? Does moving the pump around cause it to fall?
At the moment I have the pump angled about 35 deg to the front glass from right of the tank & about 10cm below the water level.
