Good morning reefers
I have some very exciting news!! Exotic Aquariums has been receiving some great marine stock in the past few months and still we have decided to up our game ! :thumbup:

Starting next month We will be hand selecting our marine live stock, in two weeks I will be landing in Bali and traveling between Makasar ,Java ,Lombok and Bangaii islands to name a few !

Please stay tuned for update photos of daily collections starting early next month. South African reefers can look forward to new standards in live stock quality !:1:

Urgent help needed how many creatures and corals

at least the worms is something to look at at the moment. on my tank the filter system sit at the back of the tank. when I top up with ro water, do i need to fill in the display area or in the filter area? I have added 2 fans to help with temp controll so the evaporation rate is quite high. at the moment it is still cycling so I only run the lights for about 3 hrs per day. the temp setteled at about 26 degrees. is this right? do I need to top up with ro on a daily basis? or rather every other day? then another question. it is a 102 lt tank. i have 9.5 kg live rock in the display, 2.5 pourus rock in the filter that will go live in 6 months and 1.5 kg rough coral in the filter. I also have about 1 kg porcelain noodles and a bag of carbon. how many creatures can i put in the tank? the first thing will be the cleaning crew. how many and what types.

Since my little tank wil only be consuming less than 10 liters of ro water per month ive decided to go with the option of bottled water,is there any ro water someone would recomend to buy since petshops selling ro water is too far away,there is a bottled ro water on the market I know of but it is ozone enriched,what effect whil this have on the tank and is it ussable?
Converting Swimming Pool

Hi Schuan and everybody,

Can anyone tell me what would be required to convert a swimming pool into a "fish tank"?
I suppose one would need to add a pool thermostat?
How can one change the pool filter to be suitable for filtering aquarium water?

What else would be needed? :(
Can anyone shed some light on this? :whistling:

i have one and found him and my blue throat kill some of my fish in the tank like my fire gobies and antheas.
i removed the blue throat thinking he was the main one but found two new bodies that the regal was eating on

hi

i started a new 102 nano tank. it is 2 and a half weeks old and still cycling. I saw about 3 red and black bristle worms in my tank and need to know if they are good or bad. some say they are good and some say they are bad. can somebody please give me the facts, I am tired of surfing the net now with different views all the time.

Ok so i suppose its official since the glass has been recieved and the tank partially put together,

stand will arrive next week and filter will be planned soon. i have also recieved my new skimmer so im pretty sure now is a good time to start a thread on it all.

Tank: 1.5m x .800 x .650 (water level .580) out of 15mm normal float glass
Stand: 1.5 x .800x .760 out of 38 x 38 square tubing to be cladded out of shutterply
Skimmer: Skimz Sm202 external

filtration:

No DSB, i have always thought them to be a waste of time as they can hardly ever be in the correct proportioned to properly service the system capacity suffieciently,

LR: I will seed the tank with the LR i have left, unfortunatley i had to dry allot of my old stuff out. as we moved and just dident have the place or time to try save it.

Flow: 2 x Tunze 6105 on 7095 controller set on a pulse mode
Return: Main return pump will be a OR3500 i may upgade to a OR6500 in time im trying to get 1 pump to run the majority of the system, feed chiller, skimmer, etc etc

Lighting: Considering T5 for my lighting this time but still have my 2 x 16k 150w Hailide + 2 54w T5 unit so will get that going in the meanwhile.

Aim of the tank: everyone is so sps orientated and to be honest they dont appeal to me in the way they do to others, I prefer seeing the effects of flow on coral and LPS does this for me.
I intend to go mostly LPS dominated with a few softies and a few hardy sps, and a clam or 2. I would like to create a pinnacle scaping wnd attack my frogspawns and hammer corals to create a branching bonsai effect with a lot of swimming space for fish.

Im trying to very electricity consious this time.

Firstly i want to say thank you to all of you for helping me out and giving me some advise.

Now here is my situation

I have managed to secure some tanks :

1. BOYU - +- 300l tank (Not sure exactly the ltrs)
2. Custom Made +- 250l Round tank, with 15mm, i think, glass. (Will try and get some pics up soon)
3. A Small +-150l standard glass tank.
4. A TetraTek 1000l Canister Filter thing.

I haven't bought the items yet, but the guy wants R5000 for the lot.

Advise please....Is this a good price for a second hand lot? Cos i have seen the Boyu Tank go for R4500 on its own and the Filter for R2800.

So i'm assuming that i am getting a steal here......

What i was planing is keeping the Boyu and the small glass tank and selling of the Round one. use the small tank as a sump and not sure about the filter....

On another note.....I poped into Northlands Pets this morning, and was once again told this time by the owner of the store himself, that i don't need the whole sump setup...

I could just go for the filter and a bio filter in the tank....but after reading up on these forums, i noted that a skimmer is most important....Is the bio filter similar to a skimmer?

NEED HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am tearing my hair out @ this....and i'm bald....;)

Has anyone cycled a tank with Prodibio Start up?

I will be cycling a tank for the first time in years and want to use Start up which has the bacteria to colonise the tank as well as some plant extract to bind the ammonia. It says that one can add fish after 12 hours of adding the product which I have no intention of doing but I would like to get opinions on the product.

Dead clam

Hi there guys and girls.

So over the past two weeks I added some corals (Zeo`s) I bought from my LFS:thumbup: I was busy this weekend doing a cleanup and water change and noticed that my clam was behaving strangely, opening up and then suddenly closing quickly,by sunday morning it noticed the clam looking very bad, now not opening up and i started to smell an odour,:blush: I then decided to put it in the sump because of my tangs starting to pick on him, I then discovered a tiny crab coming out from the clam,by sunday night the clam was dead,:( so i removed him to prevent a ammonia and nitrite spike, could this little crab do so much damage and what is the proper procedure when one adds new coral to your tank. all my parameters are in check, i do weekly tests.

Your input will be appreciated.

Chaeto Compartment Lighting??

i'm looking for a grow light bulb, prefferably a screw in one, for my sump chaeto compartment.
I have heard you need a pink plant grow one! Bit of a battle to find on the south coast! If you have a name and make I can order from a Mica or Builders express. Any ideas?

These nudibranches are commonly seen feeding on algae at Nahoon reef. This one was about 25cm long! It should be able to sort out the algae in an average 6ft tank in about a day or so. Maybe we should have one per city, and pass it from reefer to reefer?:lol:

Hi all

I haven't kept marine fish in a while and now I am moving. Would like to get R4000 not neg for the tank. Since I paid more than R13000 for it as is.

It has some tropical fish in at the moment, no skimmer. Sump filter and a really nice cabinet.

No medication ever used in the tank.

I'm looking a for a ruturn pump with a rating of approximately 5000 ltrs p/hour. Also, it musn't consume loads of electricity, so 40-60 Watts would be fine. Reputable, dependable makes only!
