Hi guys.

Ive had freshwater fish for more than 7 years now and decided to go marine.

I have 250l tank on cabinet. Bought Reeftek TS3 :yeahdude:(went big to also use in future bigger tank), had sump made, bought aragonite, mineral mud and flotek S3100 return pump.
Built my own overflow that works great :thumbup: (did not want to drill curved glass tank)

I'm really frustrated, cause the return pump makes a hell of a noise. :cursing: I can barely hear the TV, not talking about sleeping at night. The TS3 is very quiet, now I compare my pump to it. Returned the pump and they gave me another one to try, even worse. I'm running out of ideas. I think these pumps are made for outdoor and not indoor use.

Any suggestions on which pump I can try or what to do to get noise down will be greatly appreciated.

Will micro bubbles affect the working of my dsb?

I have a lot coming back through my overflow pipe.

Tried inserting a elbow under water, but it has no effect.

My dt seems clear though...
10k or 12k which is more yellow?

Hi Guys. I have been discussing this topic with my friend @rakabos He claims that a 10000k T5 is whiter than a 12000K. I am willing to bet a frag with him that 12000k is whiter....

Please would the experts in this field cast a vote?

hi guys,

I got one of these without a power supply from a fellow reefer. Without the power supply I would have to cut the wires, etc and use an aftermarket one. Is there anyone who has maybe bust his or has a power supply for it?

Joculators are only found in Indian Ocean Xmas island.They are part of Australia. There is only one collector . The permit only allows for 300 per year that may be collected (that means that there are less of them collected than conspic angels )

The closest relative is the Easter island pygmy angel ( Centropyge hotumatua ) .And they are extremely hardy angels.(i have heard after being collected and put in a bucket with in 2 hours they started eating in the bucket )

Bubble King Skimmers

Howzit Guys....

Ive used alot of differant types of skimmers, differant sizes and differant brands. But till this day, i havent managed to get my hands on a Bubble King.

Does anyone know who imports them or do I have to import it myself?

Yes at last we can post that the builders are in the process of repairing the shop and we should be back in the shop within the next 3 weeks.:thumbup:

Just some back ground and answering some of your questions.

1. The shop burned on the 15-01-2011.
2. The cause of the fire was an electrical short, not by the aquariums but by the counter.
3. LOSSES were nearly all the livestock, only a significant amount of reptiles survived. All mammals died due to smoke inhalation and nearly all the fish. Only a limited amount of hardware escaped HEAT, SMOKE or WATER damage.
4. My insurance (SANTAM) paid out ages ago thanks to a very diligent Kobus (the assessor)
5. The landlord had a problem with his insurance and they are the reason we can only get our shop back in 3 weeks. (One week later and we would have opened in a new 600 square meter premises)
This is the reason we did not post or communicated with any one, we did not know if we were going to open in our old shop or in a new shop, or even where this new shop would have been located!

WHAT WE HAVE DONE DURING THIS TIME
1. we cleaned and fixed all the aquariums so they are as good as new
2. We went thru our suppliers catalogues with a fine toothed comb to ensure we are stocked up with every thing you might need
3. we planed our shop layout for optimal use (now there are more shelf space, more aquariums and most importantly, more space to move around)
4. we build brand new customized shelving for the whole shop
5. we sat down with our customers and analised their needs and how we can meet with their expectations
6. we spend our time training our staff
7. We sat down with suppliers to negotiate the best possible discounts, prizes and products for you.

NOW WE CAN LOOK AHEAD
1. Better housing for live stock
2. A massive 5 week launch SPECIAL
3. Better prices all round
4. Better customer service

The directions on the bottle are very vague. It only says 10ml per 60l of water. How often? How long?

Righty,

So I started a thread awhile back where I had lofty ideas of creating something similar to this using a JBJ24G.

Everything went well until I discovered that the tank was too scratched to be able to use as a display tank. The system is still going however its being used as a QT and frag tank atm. Here's a pic of how it is now.

Anyways.....I was shopping at Cash Converters and I found this itank going for a song and thought, hell that's exactly what i'm looking for.

So this build is based on this tank and the wunderland inspiration :)

I see a person gets various kinds of Aragonite substrate, some white , some black , some mixed , besides the grain size , are there any added advatages using a specific colour

I like the hawain black aragonite, will this affect my tank setup or fish selction

Copperband vs tube worms

I think I made a stupid mistake. I bought a copperband a week ago mainly for the control of aptasia.

Was very worried because of it being difficult to get to eat. It is picking from the rocks and looks like its eating. Did not see it eating any blood worms and other frozen food I give my fish yet. Hope this was not a miss because I have seen no aptasia been eaten yet.

Last night I saw my tube worms "feathers" did not come out. Did the copperband eat them? I suppose so because I read that copperband do eat tube worms.

Well, the reason why I am posting this thread, is to remind those who want to buy a copperband to remove the tube worms first.

But let's discuss it firt because I can be wrong. What is your experience?
African Pygmy Turbo Snails!!!

Ok so after checking these small snails brown & pearlesent with black stripes, cruising around some rocks munching down on algea about 3 weeks ago, I decided to chuck about 10 in my tank knowing the risks to see if they were just gonna do what regular bought Turbo snails do!!!!:whistling:.....

Yes, Yes, Yes!!!! they are absolutely awesome, don't touch any corals and giving the algea a run for it's money!!!

So I 'caught':blush: more!!! and they are starting to really work!!!
Been 2 weeks since I've had them all in and improvements definately!!!

They work better than any surgeon or tang, aren't knocking corals over and are easy to take out and return to the sea when they are done!!:yeahdude:

I will take a pic this afternoon, but was wondering if anyone has tried these guys before????:whistling:
Actually not sure if they are common everywhere? but I get a load in Shelly Beach!! Gonna nickname them 'African Pygmy Turbo Snail'!!
an alternative to a delay switch on skimmer

Hey All,

I have this problem that when, for example, the power cuts my sump fills up with the excess overflow from the main tank. Then, when it comes back on my sump is nice and full and the skimmer as a result bubbles over - coz the water level is too high for a good 30 seconds. This is bad as all the crap in the skimmer can sometimes pour back into the sump.

I've heard some guys talking about a delay timer but I think I may have come up with an easier option that may help others.

The solution (well at least for me) ;)

take the air intake pipe (venturi) of the skimmer and mount it upside down such that it is just above the level your sump is USUALLY at. THEN, when the sump fills for whatever reason, the skimmer will stop working as it will be sucking water into the venturi as opposed to air.

Ok, hey all. I recently purchased a xp5000int cone reef octopus skimmer rated for 2400litres.... My system is ±1200 litres....should I have a problem or not, all advice will be gladly appreciated.... Also if it is overrated,overskimmin, can I rum it 3 days a week, or must it be on everyday???? I'm lost,please help!!!! Thanks:blush:
