OK peeps ... Time to let go of some of my goodies .... All listed here has been tested last week and is working .... All those that have dealt with me in the past will verify that I call a spade a spade .... so please ask as many questions before closing the deal with any item and will be answered as honestly as can be or even post more pics of any item if required .... Mods if I'm out of line anywhere on this thread please advise ... will be more than willing to correct ..... So lets start .... Remember everythings negotiable as long as its reasonable ...... I'm on this forum for some time now and never posted any pics of my reef.
Reason for this there are some awsome tanks on here that make me shy to post anything. But anyway here we go. I added a new sump that host all skimmers and reactors.
The tank has been running for a 1 1/2 now

Tank size : 918L x 605W x 520 water level
Two sumps
Number one : 800L x 450W x 400H
Number two : 918L x 605W x 300H
Running ATS
2 x 45w Energy Saver
1 x 25w Energy Saver
Lights : 150w Metal Halide 14000K (Reeftek)
4 T5 39W
DSB : Yes
Pumps : For water flow in DT
2 x 5000 Sunsun
2 x 3000 Sunsun
Return : 3500l/h Dophin

It has long been advised in this industry that a quarantine set up for new arrivals to a settled reef system is not at all a bad idea. I am in agreament to this and after my own research I have set up the same for the pupose of ensuring that new arrivals are eating and show no signs of infection. Over a 14 day period one can be satisfied with the out come before release to the reef setup. I have had both success and failure in my endeavours, but mostly success. I have ruled my failures to poor purchase or poor in store tank water handling conditions. I have just added a much desired regal tank of approximately 4 '' to the auarantine setup wich is approximatley 100litre plus with wear filtration and flouresent lighting. Water can be directed by plumbed system from main tank as well as shut of for independant operation and treatment as filter media can be removed.There is no substrate to permit parasite incubation but there is live rock retreats for shy arrivals such as the regal tang. It was noted after a quick check that the SG of the bagged fish was 1015 and as such I lowered the quarantine SG to 1018 as close as possible whilst maintiaing kh of 9.
This tang has been in for two days and has only briefly displayed himself for the rest of the time the fish remains hidden within the retreat areas of the tank. My research has revealed that at first this speciman can be very shy and wll with time come out from hidding, also that this speciman is very prone to parasite infection - white spot. There is no other individuals in quarantine and A diet if brine shrimp soaked with LIPOVIT and green sea veggies strapped to the live rock is what has been offered but not very well received. Live brine is the next step but I am concerned about the progess after two days and the outcome if the tang does not start to eat. There is no sign of infection and the tang is not showing any imediate signs of thinig. I also wittnessed the fish eat at the time of purchase.

Can anyone dispense some more advice perhaps there is soemthing I am missing all the help appreciated
Proposed Quarantine Tank

I was thinking of having this tank drilled, overflow added
and a sump inserted in the cabinet.

To be used as quarantine/frag tank.

What will I be able to keep in the tank if I want to use it for that purpose.

With sump it should be around 70 to 80 litres (Tank is 48 Litres)

Anyone where else i can get Reef Booster...it comes in small veils about probably 3ml or less...but it does absolutely wonders to water chemistry and the corals. After i have dosed it the results is magnificent. I only got 2 veils from a friend and he has moved overseas since..

I have two options that i want to run passed the gurus.

1) 2 x 24W T5 unit - R600.

2) 4 x 24W T5 unit, with moonlight LED's and built in fan. - R1350.

Its for my tank which is 600x300x300 (50L).

I dont mind spending extra and going for the extra T5's ONLY IF it will benefit my corals in the end? or would the smaller unit be more than enough?

Can you have too much light? How will the big unit affect my evaporation?

This will be for a sps dominated nano tank.

hey guys.

There a new guy in town which supplies water. Apparantly ro/di also. He gave me the breakdown of all the stuff in the water. Can I use(I dont think so from what I can see but its worth a try) it as he is like walking distance from my house.

Here the parametres :
Calcium : < 2
Sodium < 3
Potassium as k. whatever that means
Chloride < 5. That looks high
Sulphate (So4) < 2
Alkalinity (CaCo3) <5
Nitrate < 0.3
TDS < 20
Ph - 6-8
Iron < 0.1
Magnesium < < 0.1

Aluminium < 0.3

He claims that you can use it and people use it all the time but I dont trust NO shop in Hermanus. They all here to make quick bucks.

As far as I can see its a NO

Morning. It seems I have found a hairy hitchhiker crab "Which I have not seen in the years my tank has been running -_-..." Which now seems to have grown a taste for my Pulsing Xenia Corals, the damn thing has chopped one of my Xenia heads in half and kicked the rock it was on over! The rock was situated next to the hole it pops in and out of. I need advise to get this pain in the backside out as he is deeply burrowed into a big rock which I cant remove. Either that or my Snowflake Eel is going to have to find alternative food sources very quickly :whistling: j/ks
