Hi all,

I recently started a marine tank, small Boyu Tl-550, an impulsive buy and probably not the best choice for a beginner.

I look forward to learning as much as possible.

I have a new tank, still cycling, with some new liverock and things are starting to come alive a bit on the rocks.

I was wondering if someone could identify these two and if I should be worried about them? The second one is a bit shy of the camera, so I took a few photos of it.

They are tiny, maybe a centimeter each and this is the closest I could zoom in without losing too much focus. Still trying to get the hang of aquarium photography.

RO unit questions.

Looking at the reefmaster and reefmaster plus RO units from WaterBoy.

Have a few questions:

Whats the difference between the two?

Whats the waste water produced for every 25L of RO made?

Can i plumb this into my kitchen and drink the Waste?

Hi all,I got myself my tank,long last

Lots of cleaning and re-finishing,the stand sanded and painted with hammerite,did some cabnet work,orderd me a new 4ft sump(should get it within this week).

set up:1500x500x650(water level at 600)
Centre overflow 2x25mm and 1x50mm holes in overflow.
2x250 MH (picking up this week, need to rework the unit)
4ft sump with 3 sections.

And thats about how far I have got.I am a little worried about the centre overflow as it seems to stop or disrupt the flow,saw this when I was doing a leak test with power heads in there.Will be getting a vortec so hope this will help.I will be using the 50mm as the main overflow to my sump and one of the 25mm for return,the other I will be using for all my cables etc.

Your input would be great.

I have to say thank you to the Team from Nemo's Janitor for their excellent service with my new tank.

Matthew kept me in the loop with every detail as the tank was built, he made an arrangement with delivery date, and stuck to it - even being after-hours trip to Witbank from JHB , offloading the tank and doing everything needed for me to begin the big move.

Zoa Eating Nudibranches?

Hey guys and girls...

I have an infestation of the Zoanthus Eating Bastards... Can anyone tell me the best way to dip the corals to get rid of them? I've heard many conflicting stories with this. Some people use Iodine, some don't. Some do Freshwater Dips, Some say it's dangerous to the Zoas.

I went and bought Lugols by Brightwells, and I just want to figure out, what the best method of doing the dips is. I know I need to pH and Temp correct the water to be in line with my tank, but what else can be done?

I would prefer to go the natural extermination route, but I can't seem to find a Coris or Banana Wrasse, and my 6 line does nothing to the nudis.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Host coral for Clown

Can some one advise us on coral suitable for percula clowns. We hope they clowns will take to the coral but don't want to risk injury to the clowns or coral. Ideally, coral for low down in the tank (45 cms from light). We have a 5ft tank.

We have 4 small clowns (1 inch). No coral as yet but planning ahead.

I have had this leather for about 6 months now and about a month back, I noticed this growing from its' base.

I had an outbreak of aiptasia, which I have almost gotten rid of, but as you will see, there is still a little around the leather.

I am not sure if I should be concerned about this 'thing' and if so, how should I remove it without damaging the leather?
250w magnetic ballast

Im looking for a m80 250w magnetic ballast specific for running a de bulb. I have a 250w m58 ballast but does not fire the bulb 100%. The m58 ballast works well for a se bulb.

Hi all,

I have a 4ft tank, see thread below. Currently I have:

2 x Petmasters T5 54W ballasts
2 x White T5 (1 x 10000K & 1 x 12000K)
1 x Actinic T5
1 x Blue T5

I am looking at upgrading my lights. I was recently given a radiatus nennie and it seems this okie is looking for more light. I don't want to go with the traditional (ugly) MH. Are there more modern MH that can fit into my canopy (see pics of canopy in thread) or should I add another T5 ballast with 2 x 20000K lights.
