Hey guys.

Ive been on this thread for a long time and havent had the guts to put my setup on the forum since all you guys have such amazing setups. Thanks for all the advice given and after a while I decided to open my tanks thread.(illl tell you the whole story,sorry its so long)

Ive got a Boyu TL550 which has been running for about 15 months or so. I got given bad advice so started adding live stock after like 3 weeks. a keyhole angel and a damsel. After another few weeks my lfs told me I can add some clowns and sold me 8 and a tomato clown. Hows that.?I know its my own fault as I trusted the lfs and didnt read up on anything.Learned some hard lessons. I realised soon enough and gave away all my live stock except 2 clowns,which I still have. But the damaged was done. I struggled with algae and just had an ugly tank for like 6 months. Almost gave up.

Eventually I discovered this forum and things started changing for the better.

I changed my filtration to the following : 1st chamber : filter floss(i change every 3 days), chamber 2 : skimmer and heater, chamber 3, phosguard, purigen and once a month for a week or so activated carbon. In the last chamber my return pump and uv sterilizer. Im runniong the standard boyu lights(im gonna upgrade by adding another tube of lights,very soon)

Ive got +- 18 kg of live rock(my lfs ripped me off and sold me kenyan live rock for R220 per kilo with my tank) and like 3 kgs of base rock. My substrate is beach sand. Ive got a sun sun 1400 l flow and a seio 1000 l flow pump for flow.

My current live stock : 2 percula clowns, 1 dotty back , 6 starfish,turbo snails , 2 other snails.

After 12 months only started adding corals as I didnt feel my water was good enough even tho the parametres were. I still had algae. But all my corals are doing very well.

Here is a list of them : Ill post some pics and maybe you guys can give them the correct names : Feather Duster
Green star polyps
mushroom corals
Finger Leather Coral
Bright green mushrooms
Green Candy Cane Coral(it has doubled in size in a weeks time)

Ill be adding more coral tomorrow. and some cleaner shrimp.

Hey guys. Check out these skimmers. Think they might just work in the buyo tanks. heres a couple of links. Tell me what you guys think. The chamber where you can put the skimmer in the boyu is 11cm by 11cm (10cm by 10cm to be safe)and deep enough for most small skimmers.probably 40cm deep.

1,2m tank stand for sale. 500mm square metal tubing frame, galvanised and painted with hammerite. Nearly complete cabinet work done with superwood. As you can see in pic it has been primed already. I still have the wood for the doors too. All this cabinet needs is someone to complete the doors and give it nice coat of paint. This is yours for R500-00!!! First come first served...

2 x Actinic

I do have a extra ballast, and thought about adding 2 more lights.

Hi guys.
Firstly this isnt my tank...
Its one of my freinds in Springbock , who doesnt go on to MASA , but i thourght it whould be nice to show you guys.

photo was taken today and is of a :
Juwel vision 450 - 1.5m curved glass tank and is 450 liters.
40 kgs kenya liverock
30 kgs manufactured base rock.
18 kgs natural rock from the ocean.

the std T5 lights were changed to the
juwel marine white x 1
Juwel marine blue x 1
Juwel Daylight x 1
Juwuel highlight x 1
Giesaman aquapink x 1
Giiesaman power chrome 15000k x 1

Tempritures get high there in summer so theres a chiller
and for the cold nights of winter theres a jagger 300 heater.
Other filtration is a tetrateck EX 2400 canister and a 200liter barrel which is ther just to bump up ther water voloume.
The tank is on the top floor , but the barrel is on the outside of the house out off site on the bottom floor and is pumped to the tank.
This tank has been running about a year now.

Angle of reflectors

Hi there

I wanna have my own reflectors build, because I can not afford to buy ones.

A friend of mine has a company that can cut and bend.

It is for 58W T5's

What must the angle and length for a ^ shaped reflector be?

I was planning to either paint them white, or have it epoxy coated.

Please advise.

TL450 - Hood

Hi there everyone! :)

I got myself a TL450 in April this year. It's running smoothly.

The time has come for extra modifications beyond what Boyu can give me.

I've removed bio-balls, ceramic rings, UV steriliser & the sponge in the first compartment,

I've added a SEIO Prop 320 and Buyo WM101 (which I removed - too much flow, sand was getting blown around and the suction mounts don't help much. Considering getting a magnet mount but so far, there are no dead spots as such, so not stress there), Boyu WG-308 Skimmer, Phosphate remover, PC fan for cooling, auto feeder, and lastly an topup addition in progress... So I want to try lighting now... Need more than the standard 36watts (I think it is) of light. These are the only modifications that I can remember now.

I want to try different lighting & fan/cooling options. I've phoned around and searched and searched for a replacement hood. No one seems to have a replacement hood for the TL450.

If anyone here has a spare TL450 hood in grey or from an old or broken tank, or perhaps doesn't use the hood any more, and is willing to sell to me, please give me a shout. The tank is a display in my lounge and hence, I need a grey hood. It still needs to look like a complete unit.

If anyone can advise me on this further, it would be a great help. I'm going to start a thread soon. It's just that time is precious. I have like 5 minutes a day for MASA. Will start one soon.
