4 x neon Damsels ( Non aggressive apparently )

and some soft corals in the tank

I have a Boyu Hl55 tank witch i just started into a marine tank about a week ago and i hope that i would make a success out of it. I love the under water live so excuse me if i start asking silly questions but i am new to this and would like you to help teach me all the ins and outs of marine tanks

Suggestions needed on lighting..

I have currently got a 1.2m , 450 deep running with 2xT5 54W 10000's and 2 T5 54W Actinics.

My lighting schedule is Actinics on at 12H00, and off at 21H00
10000's on at 12H15 and off at 20H45

I will be adding another T5 54W 10000, ass well as a T5 54W Reef Blue. (they will be on the same ballast.

My problem is that my tank is quite dark until the lights come on.

I was thinking of changing so that one 10000 and the Blue comes on at around 08H00 till 14H00, when the rest comes on. I can then swich them off, and maybe on again at night for a hour or 2.

I do not have a lot of corals yet. Only 2 leathers, a few Zoa frags, and a bunch of mushrooms.

I will soon be adding more corals and a nennie....

Any suggestions??

hi everyone gane be starting my first marine tank soon and need all the help i can get from the pros:thumbup:
ive got a 240lt tank and stand need to have a overflow chamber put in and and sump built but have an idea off what i want

the guy at the lfs said i should have a sump with bio balls in it but from what i researched i think a DSB and refugium is much better any comments on the one i would like some fish and coral /LR in my tank but gane take things slow

Hi there PPL

Me and one of my friend have been chating about this for a few days now.

And i think i want a biger tank.
Not realy bigger Liter wize. Only a bit longer and wider than what i have now.

Please give some ideas.
Currently i have a 1200x600x600 with 550water level.
Im thinking of getting 2x150 Methal higlights on my current setup.
But before i get these light i wana make sure it will work on my new setup. (if i do get a biger tank)

The dimentions for the new tank will be 1300x700x500 (water level at 450)
Theres a few resons for this dimentions.
1) want more space for my fish
2) want more space for scaping (want all the live rock in the middle of the tank. Not against the back glass)
3) dont want to climb on the ladder every time i want to work in the tank
4) want a brand new tank, new glass not scratched
5) want to build my own setup (with the help of my friend, cant do it on my own)
6) still want to use my chiller and reeftek ts2 skimmer.
7) Oh ja, and with this tank i want to be in one of the MASA fetured tanks.

I dont want to spend to many thousands, hehe. But it must be well planed and no mistakes, no corections that have to be made later. Just perfect.

Im not a rich dude so im gona try and do everything myself.
Im also gona do all my woodwork myself again. But this time its gona look even beter.

So ja.
Please PPL

Give me some ideas.

Anyone have some decent mh reflectors(not spider more like lumenarc type) that they willing to sell,I just need one.Its for a single ended mh 400w but i think the 250w use the same reflectors normally.

Can i use phosgaurd, carbon and purigen in the same reactor, separate bags. im staring to have a nitrate issue. My skimmer has stopped working since i added the reactor think its the silicone in the tubing

so woke up this morning to find a big spider web looking thing around my clam stretching above and around it too.
Closer to the base of the clam it was more like a jelly feel.
couldn't find much on the web about it.

What is it and why is my clam producing it?

the clam hasnt been looking distressed or unhappy, well from what I know about clams- pretty new to them. Had this guy for about a month and a half now.

any insight will be appretiated.

Sump design ideas needed.

Hey guys

Im in the planing stages of my new setup and need some sump ideas and advice.

The space availible in the cabinet will be 60x60x80 or 100. Still deciding on the height.

Skimmer im going to use will either be a BH1000 or a TS1.
Maybe 2 sumps stacked on top of each other??

Any and all advise will be great!!

Howdy!

i have several rocks with shrooms and rics on, about 100 pieces atleast, and i am battling to remove them from the rocks for fragging and placement on plugs etc, whats the best way to get them off the rocks?
