hi everyone, got a bit of a problem, i have a flame goby in a 60L boyu cube tank, he looks as if he is blind cos when i feed (mixed flake normally and fish eggs and marine mix enriched with garlic supreme for a treat) he comes out of his hole and looks for the food but does not seem to see it he swims right past the biggest pieces and when something is right in front of his nose he will try eat it and misses 9 times out of 10, he also tends to swim into the glass and other things in the tank.

this has gone on now for about 6 to 8 months now and he is starting to look a bit thin :(, i do water changes weekly of about 15% and salinity is checked twice a week and kept between 1.020 and 1.024, clean sponges once a month, i dont really check any of the other parameters as i use my ls as a gauge to water quality, i have various softees in the tank that are all doing well as well as a small striped surgeon that needs to come out soon, he is fine aswell.

if anyone can shed some light on this it would be great, is it possible the goby could be short sighted or something like that? oh yes i forgot to add the goby has no apparent visible issues with his eyes they look perfectly normal and also i took him out my main system cos of the feeding issue, was acting strange since the day i got him tbh???

Hey everyone

So after a reply I sent on a other post I got the idea. What is the dumbest thing you initially thought worked in marines. This is in the beginner days when you didn't know better and didn't take the time to do the research. This is if you began a tank before you joined MASA or a other information group.

I will start, initially when I began with my 180L tank I only ran it with a canister filter that I cleaned once a month:whistling:. Also I thought a water change was to suck out some detritus on the ground and run it through a filter and use the "clean" water again.:lol:
Additives... Is it needed?

Hey everyone

Just a quick question. Is it needed to give additives to a tank if you target feed your corals weekly to bi-weekly? I'm only talking about softies and LPS which is able to feed easily and with success. The food being high protein and vitamin foods like mussels and hake pieces etc. In the food most of the needed minerals and vitamins are found like calcium, iodide, etc. What would your opinions be, main reason I'm asking is that a lot of what we dose in the tank just gets skimmed out of the tank a few days after. If we target feed the coral then we know it gets it's nutrients.

I've got a plage of aptaisia, before I tried to nuke them with Aptaisia-X but now there are more. What are your thouts on me getting a Pepperment Shrimp to eat the aptaisia. The aptaishia is stil small at the moment.

Beginner - Liverock Aiptasia question

Hi guys

I'm new to the adventurous (best word I could find apart from scary) world of keeping marine aquariums. I've done a lot of research, bought a book called The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner and done lots of internet research (including MASA ;)) on keeping a marine aquarium. I just got an opportunity to start a tank for myself through a friend wanting to sell his setup. Its a boyu TL-550. I would have preferred a 40 or 50 gallon rectangular tank more as heard more water the easier it is to keep. But for the price of the setup I have to go for this.

Basically my question is to do with the liverock I will be getting from my friend. My initial idea was to store it in a 20 ltr bucket premixed salt water with a small heater and airstone, but I've been reading up on Aiptasia and my friend says he has a some Aiptasia on his liverock. I've read these things are a nuisance to get rid of, so I was wondering if it would be best to potentially let the liverock dry out and then 'recure' the liverock in my new tank and seed it with a new small piece of liverock from the aquarist store (sams), thereby getting rid of the Aiptasia without fear of a reprisal :unhappy:?

So my basic questions are:
1. Should I dry out the liverock to get rid of the aiptasia and then recure it in my new tank?
2. Will this work? And if so how long do I need to dry the rock out for?
3. Is there anything else I would need to do to the liverock (like boil it or something?)
4. Is there a better way?

I have a Deltec reactor with 250ml of NP pellets for sale. The pellets have been opened just to check if they are big enough for the reactor (They are by the way). I haven't used it yet. No pump.

Hey all...well yesterday I bought a boxer shrimp...added I'm into my tank after dripping him in 4 about an hour...looked happy and was moving between the rocks ect...this mornin I c the guy just lying there looks like he is dead...but as I came closer I could c thet his 'gills' are still moving...so he isn't dead yet but also not moving...did I do something wrong or is he in shock or wot...and wots the ideal water conditions 4 shrimp?Any advise will be grately appreciated...

I don't want death so will it be fine to take some shells from george and put it in my tank. Has anyone done this, Im just scared it will bring parasites:( Is there a process before putting them in? Hi All

I've noticed something on my yellow tangs' skin. It looks like a white film & vague white spots but is only visible when I look very closely at him & only if the light catches it at the right angle. The marks are also visible on the transparent fins on his side. I'm assuming this is not normal & otherwise he seems happy. He is eating & doesn't seem to be scratching himself on anything. My cleaner wrasse is very interested though & constantly cleaning the tang.
Unfortunately I don't think the camera I have will be able to capture what I'm talking about.
I have had him for about 3 weeks now & didn't quarintine him because I haven't got the necessary equipment yet.:whistling:
What do you guys think?

Clam jumping

Dudes,

So I recently purchased a great clam. I'm not 100% sure if it's a Maxima or a Crocea. I'm running 6xT5's. It's been a week and he keeps jumping off the LR. Every now and then he appears to be settled and I wake up the morning and he's hopped off the rockery. This morning I just left him on the sand bed as I didnt have time to de-robe to fish him out. I'm placing him fairly high up on the LR and tried fillding with the powerheads... any suggestions??

Mixing salt

hey guys

quick question... when mixing salt does the salt in the mixing tank need to be the same salinity as the salt in your DT.

the reason Im asking is that Ive had my Alkaline and calcium raise enormously and i ve not been using any additives besides phosphate remover and microbacter7.

the only thing Ive been doing is my 10% water changes which is 75L so i dont know if Im using too much salt or what
