Nothing like getting home on a Friday night after a few beers to find out power has been down since 07:30 this morning, the tank is ice cold, clowns look pale and not much happening in the tank. Return pump was still running through the ups but managed to organise a little gennie from an ex reefer up the road, hooked up the 2 jäger heaters and the return so hopefully all will be ok tomorrow, set my alarm for 2am to refill the gennie. Viva new SA!!!

M fish are in quarantine at the moment. Looks like the tang and anthia were fighting as the tangs mouth was hurt and the side of the anthia was red. TOday the wound on the anthia looked swollen. Now the anthia is kinda laying on its side but its still alive.. I hasnt been eating today. Is there anything that I can do? Thanks guys

Hi guys
I was just wondering, when you premix saltwater and store it in a bucket for future use, is it sufficient to have an airstone and a heater running in the bucket? and can the bucket be closed or does it have to be open?
Thanks

Hi Guys
I need a ID on these guys please.
The two on the left are hermit crabs and a snail on the right. Is that a cushion star?
Are they safe to put in the tank?
TIA

Hi All
I have recently got myself a secondhand Tunze Nano Wavebox.
I am a bit confused I know on a 2 m I am streching it but after calculating I found my Volume only to be 660liters. So I think it will be ok. If I have it on its minimum, I have this awesome double wave the waves in both directions Horizontal and vertical. When I set it to 1o clock on the dial I get a single wave moving the volume of water uniformly left to right. Now my question Double wave or Single wave - which is better ???? From What I could see last night the single seems to have the polyps move more with it but has about a 1cm wave ? The double creates a crazy flow inside the tank 2 cm wave.
Please I need some help on this one ?
Cheers
Willie

Ok so i jnow that it isnt Algae but i am at my ends i have had it AIPTASIA
So basically i want to eradicate aip tasia in my system 3 weeks ago i spent the weekend nailing every piece of aip i could find or see in the tank i used Aip X it was fantastic my tank looked good and i was pleased now i have small Aip growing in my sand bed i have small and large growing on every piece of liverock including the one or two pieces on the stem of my Pincushion
so here is my plan i want to remove all the sand out of my tank with the live rock chuck it into the sun for a week or so, rinse thouroughly with RO then set up a bucket to reseed the dead rock for a couple of weeks
there is just to much Aip for even peppermints to take on
I do know that i will lose all life that was on or in the rocks including some cute little sponge things but when a rock has 30 to 40 Aip on it what can you do
Now i am sure that the fish and Nennie will be fine running in the tank with the sump filter going i mean people do have FO systems
CAN ANYONE OFFER ANY OTHER ADVICE FOR THIS I AM FINISHED

I'm in the mood for a competition to celebrate our 5000 membership. :)
Any idea's what sort of comp we can have? Or perhaps just a raffle type of thing where to enter you just need to upload a FTS or something? Let's hear some ideas.
Prize wise I was thinking of maybe buying a refractometer, a bucket of salt and maybe some additives or foods for a nice little first prize hamper.

Hi Everyone
My name is Rory and I have been keeping fish for the past 15 Years started with Cichlids which are awsome lil fish, they currently live in a 310L Sun Sun tank, with External Canister filter. Tanks has been running for the past 3 years.
I recently jumped into marine roughly a year ago with a Boyu Nano tank, once the addiction kicked in I purchased a Red Sea Max 130D, the tank is fantastic! I have been running the tank since March this year and it is coming along nicely.
Red Sea Max500 here I come!!! This all thanks to the guys at Wild On Pets, who have been exceptional in dispensing there knowledge and guidance.

I would like to get an idea of the evaporation rate you guys have..
At this stage it looks like I'm having about 5-8 litres a day.
Seems that when I have a lot of surface movement, the evaporation rate goes up.
I also had 4 10cm fans runnning in the Top to keep the lid and light areas dry. I now have 2running, and is considering having only 1 running.
How many litres a day/week do you guys have to top up?

Wanted to know if there would be a problem with putting purple up,reef booster, trace elements all into my container of Ro water when it auto tops up?
Or is the doses to little? my evaporation rate is about 5l per day.
Also can i dose my pre-made food with herbatana?
Any input would be great.

Just thought I'd share my progress here and post some pics as I go along with my new tank setup.
Found a nice spot for my TL550 and then started to clean it out a bit before adding sand water and live rock. I bought the tank second hand so just to be safe I rinsed everything off and let it dry thoroughly before putting pump, heater, skimmer, uv light back into the tank. Started to wash my sand last night, rinsing and rinsing and rinsing some more just be make sure I remove all the dirt that could be stuck in it.:P
As a result I have broken 3 nails in the process (LOL) I guess as a woman my hands are just not used to so much water and hard labour. ha ha ha ha
I added the sand to the tank and decided on a bed of 3 cm's. Getting my SW tomorrow and adding and then starting up the cycle.
Will keep u posed and add some pic's soon.
