Hi guys! In a bit of a situation. Was moving my tank and a smalll hairline crack appeared by the overflow hole . My overflow is on the right pane of my 4 foot system. At the top centre. I silliconed it now and filled to below the crack. How can I assess whether it will run? Its about 3 cm. Only have till sunday Afternoon. To sort this out. :blush: dawie

I have seen a few guys make storms in their tank and have lightning effects.

This is easy to do with bright white LED's and the effect does look great!

Now the question is, how does this affect the LS in your tank?
Does this not scare them shitless?

Is there any benefit in doing this, or just another useless effect?
whats the best way to mix kalk?

Hey guys.. What the best way to dose kalk to a system? Heard kalk reactors get damaged and so do the pumps in the ATO. How do you guys do it and how do you mix it up? Heard of using vinegar also to help the kalk to dissolve :)

OOPS!! No acclimatization for new shrimp

Hi guys

I bought a dancing shrimp today. When I got home, I opened the lid of my tank to put the bag in the water. The bag hit a sharp corner on the tank and tore a hole. Before I could find the hole, the shrimp made his escape through the hole and straight into the tank.

Do you guys think he will be OK?

Hey guys I have Base rock for sale. I weighed it this morning incl a container and it was 26.3kg.. So lets just say its 25kg. Ill sell it for R30 per kg or R600 for the lot. I would prefer to sell it together. The rocks are extremely porous and are of a good size

They are expensive but we will let them go at far below what they should go for.

Bi color angel

So I introduce my P/Tang and Bi color angel in to QT 5 with the Y/tang, regal and Tenneti tang to see if they come along and to be dripped in only in one bucket this weekend to the DT.

Since yesterday the P/tang is covered in Don't really know its not spots it's more like 1mm white strains all over his body so I start the meds on the tank.

This morning I see my Bi color angel cleaning him:eek: can that be?
glass thickness

Just filled my frag tank and according to the glass thickness calculator 6mm will be safe with safety factor of 3.5 and yet there is a 5mm bend in the middle.

tank is 110cmL x 60cmW x water level at 40cmH and now have a bend of 5mm in the middle

How safe is it to use those calculators? If it safe I don't want bends in the middle and don't want to fit a rim either.

Now I have to fit a rim on a frag tank lol

Has anybody seen cushion star eggs? I had a look this morning and I see some orange eggs on the top corner of my tank, I can only suspect that is the cushion star's, as they they the only one's that can get to the top right in the corner, unless is snail eggs? I have two local round shell snails...?

MASA staff have reviewed the above mentioned shops practices of late with unease, we acknowledge that members are upset and we have and will continue to through our own channels attempt to contact Trev and find out what has happened.

On face value is appears that the shop has closed down, however we acknowledge that there may be extenuating circumstances of which we have no knowledge. In a bid to protect members and in line with our sponsorship policy, we will be removing Trev as a sponsor as from today, until such time as we know what is happening after which we may or may not re-instate his sponsorship.

This will remain a closed thread until contact with Trev has been made.
Adding Additional Live Rock

My tank has been running for 10 months now and would consider it reasonably mature.

Our LFS has some nice new LR from Indonesia or Malaysia (can't remember now) which arrived day before yesterday. Therefore, it has not cured yet. It however has minimal growth in terms of sponges etc.

There is a piece that I would really like and don't want it to be sold before I get.

Another reefer at the store mentioned that if my tank was mature enough I could add it to my tank without curing. Would this be a problem. Thoughts please.

Convert Internal "Sump" to External..?

As most probably know by now, I'm seriously looking for a proper Protein Skimmer for my Boyu TL-450..:(..The dimensions on this Tank is ridiculous..something like 7cm by 9cm..:eek:.. I'm short with a cm either way, no matter what "nano" Skimmer I'm looking at..:( Don't want to do Hang-On as I don't like the "sticking out at the back" of the Tank and then the Hood can't open fully neither, which would probably require another "cut-out" mod..."Worst case scenario"..power failure and water all over my plugs at the back..:blush::eek:

The only other option for me is if my "Skimmer Section" is on the outside of my Tank...My Tank has the Boyu Stand so I can "house" my Protein Skimmer there, inside the cupboard....that is possible..? A "sump" on the outside, basically just for the Internal Skimmer...

I'm looking at the Reeftek In-Sump TS1 Protein Skimmer...

Is it possible just to do a "sump" at the bottom of my cabinet to house it..if so, how big must it be...? Then the compartments in my Tank can be as follows: 1 is Filter Floss and PhosGuard, 2 is Filter Floss and Ammonia Absorbing Stones..at the moment everything is in 1 and the Boyu Skimmer is in 2....3 is my LR and 4 is currently my Heater....

In case of power failure, I settle for water all over the floor, but very fearful of water and electricity:eek:

If I can do it...could I please get some info on how the pumps would go.."in" which chamber.."out" which chamber..:blush::blush:
