Eskom Power cuts in Bothasig on 04/08/2011

To all Bothasig reefers on the 04/08/2011 there will be a interruption of electricity supply from 09:00-10:00 & 15:00-16:00.

Eskom is getting up to mischief again!!!!:eek:

I saw this flyer yesterday & not really pleased with this as we haven't received this notice in our letterbox yet but are laying in piles at our local friendly store in a corner by the cashier not many people look at.

Just thought I'd just give you guys a heads up!!!!;)

1. When I wake up to find my pretty big longs spine urchin dug into a cave 50 times smaller than itself.

2. Power fails

3. Find some of our cat's toys in the sump (apparently my fish like catnip)

4. When night time comes and the urchin tries to get out of the cave. :eek:

Has anyone had any experience or know anything about these skimmers now I know I need a decent skimmer but can buy one of these "needle wheel" skimmers rated 1200 L for R1000

Problem is I don't want to buy rubbish but the few posts on the web I can find on these are pretty good (mostly aussie sites)
Any advice?

Hey guys.. I was reading an article about controlling aiptasia.. and came across this :

Brackish Water Fish:
Scats in the genus Scatophagidae are brackish water fish that will readily consume Aiptasia Anemones as part of a varied diet.

Spotted Scat Scatophagus argus are quite hardy and can be acclimated successfully to both fresh water and saltwater aquariums.

Has anyone tried this? Also, do they pick on corals? I need some aiptasia control!

So I have a barnacle living in one of my torch coral heads, that particular head has its tentacles extended, maybe not to their max but it does't seem to be too bothered...

Should I be worried? Can it cause harm in the long run?

Received my 16mm Chipboard today with 1mm pvc black edging on visible sides

Was precut and edge for me to my specs

DT 152cmL x 82cmW

Cabinet 152cmLx 86.7cmW and 73.2cmH
Plastic legs with height of 3cm
Using Black coated Rino board screws 4cmL

That is so far ,lol, now I will decide what to do further
Other uses for LEDs

After I installed LEDs on my tank I looked for other uses for these great, energy saving devices. I have been using them for various indication lights since they were invented but now they make them much more powerful and you can use them for general lighting. I am sure that in a few years, they will be the only lighting available for just about everything.
On my boat I have what in a car would be called courtesy lights. We use them on the boat when we anchor at night to light up the cabin area but I don't like leaving them on all night because of the drain on the battery.
I have begun replacing the incandescent lights with DIY LED bulbs.
This one pictures in the construction stage replaces the bulb on the workbench. It is the same size, puts out the same amount of light but uses 15 times less power so I can run it continousely with no fear of killing the battery.
They do sell some types of 12 volt LED bulbs but they are almost $30.00 and I have not seen this type, although it may be out there someplace. Besides I like building things. This one cost me $5.00. The completed model has no wires visable and it plugs into the same socket as the other "rea" bulb.
I love this stuff.

Noticed this white discolouration that started about 3 days ago, I can see it getting bigger and bigger ?

Aquamedic Reef Blue colour temp?

Hi guys,

Anyone know the colour spectrum (in kelvin) of these globes?
I had one reef white and one reef blue and i've switched them both to blue for a few days to suppress some of the algae issues I'm having.

Yes, I know this is not the right way to deal with algae. Just don't have the time to do it properly so doing a bit of an experiment. Just want to check if they are very high K, or actinics. If they're actinics then I wont just run the blues.

Hey Guys like the header says. I have an anchor hammer in my system at the moment which my brother bought. its a bit too big for his tank and does not fit well in mine lol. So he is wanting to trade this hammer (bottom left of the pic) for 4 heads of so of a normal branching hammer.

So seeing as how one of the forum members opened the eyes of the sponsors to mini carpet nennies, I thought id try my luck at zoas. Are the LED's getting better and better for Aquariums or are they just getting presented in a better way...sounds to me LED's are the way to go..hopefully with more Aquariums coming out completed with LED's...the prices of LED's will come down, so that we can upgrade without breaking the Bank...Hmmmm don't Sponsors see a gap in the Market? Someone, somewhere is going to make the first move and make a killing...IMHO:blush:
L-200 Boyu Chiller

Anyone have experience with this chiller? It has gone on special at LFS, was R5668, now R3500.

I really need a chiller as my tank is an in wall system and with MH lamps, the water temperature fluctuates by a degree or two between lighting periods.
