Howdy guys
I need my C02 bottle refilled. Hopefully Idol has so I can swap it out.
I was thinking, what if they don't have. That could be a problem as I am sure this could mess with my tank a lot.
I tried a local Paintball shop and they looked at me like I was stupid. When I eventually got them to understand they did not have the right connections.
Any Paintball or other places you guys can think off in the Sunnighill, Randburg, Randpark Ridge area?

Can I make saltwater icecubes to help cool down my tank? I can't afford a chiller, and it's 109 - 114 degrees F here this week. My airconditioner just broke, so we're running on window units. The living room's lucky to get below 84 at night. (That's where the tank is.)

Hi there. I set up my first marine. Used prime. Let it set a couple of days. Tested ok for everything, so I threw in a live rock (Cured at the LFS), bottled beneficial bacteria, a couple of hermits, a snail and two fish. (Don't hate me for it. Read I could use a couple of fish to get the cycle going. I won't let them get too stressed. I'll do partial changes if needed.) I'm constantly checking water quality and am seeing no signs what so ever of any stress on the fish. My problem is, it's been 5 days and no ammonia what so ever is showing up. PH is steady at 8.2, Alk is good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrate, 0 nitrite. The fish are active, happy, eating, etc. Why is there no ammonia showing up?

I like to keep my rocks off my substrait as much as posable but most of my rocks are large and heavy because I collected them in the sea.
Much of my new rock is hollow PVC with cement coating it. I am soon going to re aquascape and I will keep the rocks lifted off the gravel with these
structures. When it is in the tank under the real rocks, it should not be visable except for the column legs.
This first picture is of course the construction.
The thing cost less than a buck and took about an hour to complete

Hey Guys,
I redid my display tank about 2 months ago, leaving the aragonite I used as substrate in a bucket, rinsing it with a hosepipe about 4 times over the last month .
I would like to return it to my display, but was wondering what is gonna be a good way to really clean it???
There is a definate sulfur crappy smell coming out of the bucket when I rinse and the water goes grey whenever I do this??
I heard the best is to spread it out over plastic or something and let it dry in the sun for a few weeks... but dogs in the garden, and other reasons are making me not wanna do this.
Can I microwave it or bake it in the oven???
Ideas???

Hi guys so I'm setting up my tank and everything is fine, but ill need something to keep my pump alive when the power goes down, what can I buy and what would you guys suggest?

So I know these guys prefer lower flow, unfortunately both of mine are in highish flow areas, not direct but they've got quite a bit of movement going.
I specifically want them to cover the rocks where I placed them, will their growth be comprised by the higher flow?

My system was built with the mindset of only having 2 tangs.
A PB and a Achilles. I've done my research on this tang from day one and I'm starting to look around.
Just to keep the tang police happy, display is 600L, very high flow, especially between 40-70cm high area and quite a few rock caves to hide in.
My PB is a happy guy and I have never had ICH of any sort in my tank, I'm sure the PB would have showed signs by now if I did. I've got a quarantine tank set up at a friends house with my salt with salinity and tank temps identical to mine just for this guy.
Because they are hard to get I wont be picky on size but if the PB becomes a hassle I'll do the in-tank-basket thing until he calms down.
There's a sponsor that'll MAYBE get one in the near future but like we all know they don't ship well so my hopes aren't high.
If anyone knows of Achilles at a LFS, preferably a reputable one stocking one please PM me, I'd like to go and have a look. (would obviously be a bonus if he's eating well).
ATM my PB follows a wide diet including Ocean Nutrition sea weed (Doesn't like the red though).
Tank mates will include the PB obviously, 2 clowns, foxface, 2 royal grammas, a cleaner wrasse and soon a 6 spot blenny.
Besides the CUC that'll be the only LS, I'm more of a coral guy.
Any input/advice/criticism welcome.

I went and bought some Hydrogen Peroxide 30 volume and mixed this into a 500ml RO water spray bottle with a solution ratio 1:3...1=Hydrogen & 3=RO Water.
- Each rock which contains the briopsis or any kind of algae i removed from my DT and placed in a bucket with some DT water to rinse it off later.
- The solution which i mixed i spray the entire rock with it all over the briopsis or algae
- Certain rocks had Zoa's, Barley Polyps, Yuma Ricordia's and Daisy's growing on it.
- All these corals close once removed from the water i sprayed all around the yuma's but really gave it a good spray on all of them.
- I then left the rocks standing on the table for about 1-2minutes you will see small bubbles forming throughout the algae.
- I then rinse it off in the bucket with the DT water and place it back into the DT.
- About 8-10 hrs later you will see that the briopsis turns white and with the flow in your tank gets ripped of the rock and or like in my case the CUC came to clean up the rock further.
I hope this helps but please also bear in mind that if you should spray this on rocks with coraline algae the coraline will turn white...but should be back in no time..
I have done this twice already and even used a cloth damped it in Hydrogen Peroxide to and wiped my DT front glass..also be aware that if you are going to be dosing this at a later stage it can kill off all macro algae growing in your sump or tank.
Since i have clean my rocks i had no more huge algae problems although there are patches here and there but nothing to worry about or alarming as to take over my corals as before.
Please by mindful that this has worked for me..and it is only my 2 cents worth sharing..

Look at this tank, insane, and I'm not talking about the colourful corals...
Some points I picked up on:
- I don't use any additives other than iodine, which I dose once a month if I remember. No blue bottles, no vials of bacteria, no secrets or magic potions. I use a Deltec calcium reactor which keeps up with Ca and Alk demand.
- A deep sand bed, cheato and xenia
- One thing this reef tank has demonstrated is just how little is needed, it has helped me realise there's a lot of stuff I don't need.
- There is no live rock, just a few bits of dead reef bones
How crazy simple is this tank yet look at the corals :eek:
Read all about it here -

Hi all
I have a 1.6x0.7x0.7m display tank, with a 1.2x.0.7x0.25m sump.
I use a dsb, LR, cheato, carbon, phosphate reactor and a AM3000 skimmer.
What would the signs be of over stocking?
Currently I have:
2xclowns (oscelaris)
2xbangai cardinals
1xpurple fire fish
1xleopard wrasse
1xyellow tail spotted wrasse
1xblue cheeked goby
1xyellow tang(m)
1xregal tang(m)
1xnaso tang(m)
1xpowder brown tang(m)
1xcoral beauty
1xpotters angel
3xblue green chromis
1xmidas blenny
1xpurple fish (almost like a midas, but more luer atrebutes)
2xcleaner shrimp
2xfire shrimp
2xcleaner starfish
1xlongspine sea urchin
Lots of coral...
1xmagnifica anenome(L)
1xbubble tip (xs)
I'm currently feeding 5 times a day to make sure everyone gets something to eat.
I have diatoms, small patch. The current tank has been running for 5 months.
But 1/3 of the stock is from my old tank, which was running for 2 years.
Most of the LR and sand was from the old tank.
