  Back-up power????

  I need advice.... I seriously need back-up power urgently. It feels I am really gambling with "luck" now. I have a generator as back-up power now, but it means nothing if I'm not here to start it or if the power goes off at night and I dont wake up :sweatdrop:.
  My tank setup is a 1200 liter (DT + sump + display refugium). What I ideally would like is to have a UPS to keep the return pump running until power comes back on or in worst case scenarios, till I can start the generator. The return pump is an EHEIM 1262 (900 GPH).
  I know one can build amazing back-up systems but what about buying a "ready made" UPS/system capable of doing the job.
  Any suggestions on what to buy and where to buy?

  what LED bulb should i buy??

  Hey everyone.
  Can any body tell me what LED i should look out for, (i need a model no. please). I am keen on building my own light setup and want to run the tank as cost effective as possible. so low power lighting is my only option.
  the plan is to start with FOWLR. but if its possible to make the lights "reef ready"- then why not ey?

  My almost nano reef

  My previous tank was just too big and became work very quickly. After losing most of my fish due to velvet, I sold the big tank and kept the livestock that is not fish.
  
  I have decided to put up a more maintainable. The size came out to be 60 x 60 x 40 cm.
  
  The tank is running for a week now and everything looks good. I have used prodibio startup and have added 3 small fish.
  
  I have added 2 x yellow clown gobies and a small jumping bean.
  Future additions planned is a six line wrasse and a clown pair.
  
  The lighting is a DIY cree led fixture and still have to be modified for the tank.
  
  I also have a bio-pellet reactor and a skimz 121 skimmer in the sump.

  Manic's Rimless Shallow Reef

  Hey Everyone,
  
  So I have been really quiet lately, but for good reason. I sold off all my equipment and livestock after the incident with the tick and flea spray that killed all my fish (almost 30 of them). I thought I wouldn't get another tank and would give marine a break for a while. Well that didn't last long. I moved into my own house and after a month without a tank I got withdrawal symptoms and decided to take the plunge again. So I built a new tank and stand by myself. Pretty much completely DIY for most of the stuff. Enough background now, here are the stats:
  
  Tank:
  
  Display: 1000mm x 600mm x 450mm (High) 10mm glass, polished and beveled edges, base inside tank. Black silicon. Rimless
  Sump: 900mm x 400mm x 400mm (3 compartments)
  
  Lighting: 8 x 39w T5 (All giesemann obviously)
  
  Lighting from front to back
  
  1 - Actinic+
  2 - Actinic+
  3 - Aguablue+
  4 - Pure Actinic
  5 - Aqua Pink
  6 - Aquablue+

  Heaters: 300w Jager on separate temperature controller (Keeps temperature between 24-24.2C all the time)

  ok well for the past few days i have been noticing my lunure wrasse doing random "tumble turns". now today i noticed that one of its gills are wide open. he still eats...i think. any idea of what could be wrong? i have really grown fond of him and really dont want him to die

  I've been reading up enough to know the treatment... Aiptasia X, boiling water, aiptasia zapper etc etc etc...
  
  What I'm looking for is WHERE THE HELL DOES IT COME FROM!!!??? :banghead:
  
  Two months running, not a sign and when I get home from work THREE... :eek: :eek: :eek:
  
  It is a kind of nennie or something right??? I thought your tank needs to be 9 months old for a nennie??? :biggrin:

  Best Angelfish For a Coral Tank?

  I am thinking of adding an angel or 2 to my Mixed coral tank.
  I have tried Jumping Beans, Multispinners & bispinosus before (Locally caught!!)
  But they always start nipping at corals!
  
  Was thinking who has had the most luck with any of these species or similar maybe Geniacanthus?:blush:

  With my little experience so far, I find using Vodca and Biodigest dosing very easy.
  
  Benefits:
  1. Being able to keep SPS.
  2. Great color for SPS.
  3. Reduction of algae growth.
  4. Bacteria serve as food for corals.
  
  Now, what are the disadvantages from your experience? I am thinking of no need of cleanup crew as there will be no food for them to eat? Surtain corals cannot be kept because they need some nitrates and phosphates?

  Canon 450D freezing

  My 450D is about 2 years old, never had any problems, never been dropped...
  
  All of a sudden it is freezing when I press the shutter. It remains frozen until I turn it off and on again. I checked batteries and firmware updates; all fine.
  
  I also noticed this morning that if I try take a picture in Live mode this does not happen - the picture takes normally.
  
  Any ideas?

  Brown stuff and white creatures

  Surge Nano experimental tank

  Here is my side project at the moment. I had a couple of odds and ends laying around at home. And started a nano surge tank. Total water volume is 60 L. Age of tank is 5 weeks Old.
  Im currently battling to buy live rock for it. Hence my request for cheap live rock of dead live rock, or even ones people want to give away...;)
  The setup currently consist of:
  1.5 foot diplay area
  1.5 foot DSB, with a surge chamber
  A small ATS
  Tiny Skimmer
  A 1700 l/h Pump, and a 2000 l/h pump to ATS
  An old 70 watt MH light, running 6000 K - 8000 K
  +- 4kg of live rock in display area

  Half Open GSP?

  Now granted in the next picture she is still waking up :) but the area I have circled has stayed closed for the last four days with little sections barely popping out now and again. Parameters and lighting below:

  Amonnia = < 0.25 (so the lowest on the color chart)
  N03 = 2
  N02 = 0.1
  Phosphate = 0.03

  How often do you test your Parameters

  So I have been doing tests every day and they seem pretty stable (had a Phosphate issue I had to sort out but nothing a big water change and some Phosphate reactor couldn't sort out).
  
  My main question is how often do you guys test:
  
  1. Everyday till you think its stable
  2. Only when I see things go wrong
  3. Test what?
  
  Also right now I am testing:
  
  Ph
  Amonia
  N03
  N02
  Phosphate
  
  
  But I see people testing for things like Cal, Mag Strodium etc etc
  
  So some guidance here do you go out and buy every test in the world - would be nice if there was a machine for this :)
