SEIO's kill fish?

It was with great sadness that I got home yesterday and found my much loved and favourite fish - the Copperband, resting against my SEIO 820 - dead :( The previous day he was fit healthy and I was admiring him and taking numerous photos. I can only but assume he swam too close, got stuck and I didnt rescue him in time. I've had a total of 5 fish over 4 years which have been found resting against these. I cant confirm that the powerhead was responsible for all deaths.

Is this unique to the older M series SEIO's or do other people find the same thing with other powerheads?

I posted a similar thread many years ago.

It took me 5 months to find the right sized and healthy Copperband. I'm very bleak about it :(

The wife calls at 15h00 and says my sump is leaking water. I am not too worried by this and tell her to remove the filter floss and sponge between the sump return and skimmer chamber. When I get home I find this

and this.

I now wonder if I will be able to keep my sand and rock alive if I can find a big enough temp tank to put my dsb sand and the sump rock into. Plus the 2 Lions and the Rockcod.:(:(:(
Could Frag Tile Leach into the system

I have quite a few frags in my tank which are mounted on tiles and over the last few weeks I have noticed something peculiar......there is pink candy floss algea frowing on the tanks..nowhere else in the tank though....also doesnt seem to spread

Could the tiles be the source of nutrients / phosphates , or am I missing something ?

Hi everyone

I've been using MASA for a while now, just never come around to posting pics of my tank. But at last I've managed to get to do it now...

Ok, first things first:

Water Params:

Temperature range: 24.8-26
PH Range : 8.2-8.4
Ammonia: not detectable
Nitites: Not detectable
Nitrates: Between 5-15.
Alkalinity: around 3meq/l

Equipment:
Boyu TL 550 132l

Stock skimmer, pump and lighting. Have heard a lot of guys say the skimmer doesn't work. I haven't yet had any issues with it. In fact I get a nice cupfull of very bad smelling greenish brown liquid every week!

Replaced the 100w heater with a 200w heater. No idea about the name, it works and I'm happy.

Replaced the big sponge in the first chamber on right hand side with some a smaller piece of filter media I got from LFS. I take this out and rinse it on a weekly basis. Lots of dirt...

Then I put in a small bag of Purigen during cycling. Worked very well!

In the third chamber I added lots of liverock.

I only run the UV filter a few days when adding livestock.

Added a 2000l/h powerhead in the display section. Not sure, but think it might be a bit on the strong side...

I do water top ups as needed. Water changes on a bi weekly schedule, 15l.

Tank has been running for almost 3 months now.

It's stocked with:

2 turbo snails
Peppermint Shrimp
Cleaner shrimp
2 yellow tail damsels
2 Percula clowns
1 red hermit crab (he doesn't come out when the lights are on ever... So shy. Any one else experienced this?)
1 blue cheek goby (we have a love hate relationship)...

Some very nice green Zoa's I got from Flamming Angel
Kenya Tree
Leather Coral
Mushroom Rock
Candy Cane coral
Very pretty Blue Daisy polyps (also heard people call them Blue clove polyp)
then some random tiny frags that was lying around at the bottom of a LFS tank (begged for them)...

Keeping tempretures constant

Hi all,

So as I am looking at clams my research brings me back to two main things that need to be kept constant:

1. Tempreture
2. PH

So with Tempreture they say that it should NEVER EVAAAAAAAA go over over 27.6 degrees. Now with my tank it hovers over 26 sometimes 27. I don't want summer to come along with my MH and boil the ocean so to speak. So the question I have for you guys is what is the best way to keep the tempreture as constant as possible?

I have decided to sell or swop my my H. Magnifica for an RBTA. I thought it was a Malu when I bought it, but was mistaken. Lesson learnt.

The nennie is fine in my tank, eating well and has maintained its colour. However, given the track record for these nennies I would rather get a BTA or similar less demanding nennie.
