Just a quick note that I'll be selling all my equipment. I still need to itemize and photograph it properly, and figure out sensible prices, but in the mean time, anyone who's interested can contact me (yes, I read the rules - just trying to get the info out there for now). I'm realistic about the value of second-hand reefkeeping setups, so any reasonable offers will be entertained.

In summary it's all the equipment in these two threads (less the cracked tank in the second thread, of course). There are plenty of photos of the stuff that's for sale scattered through those threads.

- Large Tank: 2.5m x 1.0m x 0.75m (approx 1800 litres)
- Steel stand for above tank: custom made from 50mm square tubing.
- Reef Inmates 400W SPS Extreme Lighting Unit
- Large Chiller (converted aircon unit)
- Large Deltek Skimmer
- Bubblemaster BM250
- 2 x Vortech MP40 Pumps with Wireless Controllers
- 2 x Large return pumps (will look up the makes and models shortly)
- Calcium Reactor with all accesories, including pH controller
- Kalk stirrer
- A variety of other cheaper, Chinese powerheads and pumps
- About a million other bits and pieces that I'll probably give away to buyers of the above.

If you're interested, please reply to this thread. As soon as I have the time (in the next few days), I'll dig everything out of storage and itemize/photograph it. In the mean time I'm happy to answer any questions about the equipment.

white spot and metronidazole

Hi all,
please help!!!! AGAIN!!!!
Is the use of metronidazole effective in the treatment of white spot in a reef tank.
I was told to strain some live brine shrimp into a container and mix the powdered
medication into this. Wait a few minutes, then feed the fish.
Problem is the one that is most severly affected is not feeding
Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Has anyone got any info on the above? Our LFS got one in a little while ago...not for sale as he cant find any info on them on the net...I tried to look for info as well and came up empty handed...this little guy really intrigues me and is definately not something you see every day...wouldnt mind a tank just for him. :)

Urgent: Yellow watchman goby

Hi All,
I am seriously looking for a medium to large Yellow Watchman Goby. Mine died for no apparent reason after being with a Pistol Shrimp for more than a year. They were extremely close and very happy. I am afraid the Pistol will perish now as he does not come out into the open without his Watchman. I am feeding him with the feeding tube to make sure he gets food.

I have been to most of the LFS in the Johannesburg/Pretoria area but they all have extremely small specimens, which would not be wise to pair with the Pistol.

Skimmer Collection cups only Function

Hey MASA

I just bought a Tunze 9002 skimmer. I forgot to add the skimmer dimentions to the measurements and now the skimmer doesnt fit into my tl550. Stupid,i know. or the skimmer fits but the cup is too long to fit without removing the hood. So its just the cup I need to get rid off.

Anyway. Does the skimmer cup do anything other than collect or has the way its shape got anything to do with efficiant skimming.

Here is my plan. I want to remove the cup,add a piece of pvc or pipe into the skimmer where the cup was supposed to be,connect a piece of clear tubing or hose to the pvc pipe and let the crap run all the way down to the ground into the cup or container. Does this make sense? Maybe Ill drink a few beers and then I will be able to explain better.:lol::lol:

I really hope there is a way to mod this skimmer to fit inside the hood coz I have already cut the magnet so there is no way of returning it for something else. :(

Just for fun and kicks...

For me, its definitely the water changes. The idea of mixing the odd 150L, getting exactly that amount of old water out of the tank and the new water in crushes my soul every Thursday.

What do you guys enjoy the least?

So I'm a last year bcom marketing student and I have plenty time to go and just check out all the places with marine stock and believe me I've been to all around the jhb and pta area.

What I've noticed is we all have a passion for this hobby and I think its important for the lfs to also have a passion for it and at all the sponsors you that I've been to (Dorry pets,Idol marine,jungle aqautics,Exotic aqauriums and wild on pets) have been fantastic in advise and on care etc,

All the other pet shop (that's not sponsors) is a bit shocking to see the care and handling of these beautiful animals. So therefore I have to say the sponsors are really doing a great job and I would suggest all to rather make use of the sponsors.

If this happens one day yellow tangs will vanish from aquariums, so never underestimate the value of your marine life because if some people get their way , you wont have an aquarium. It is up to us the hobbyists to protect our hobby in a responsible and sustainable manner - captive breeding must be encouraged and supported too!If you see captive bred stock even if it is more expensive support it because it is the future!

I have a funny question..

If i dont have white-spot in my tank, and want some caulerpa from a reefer close to me, that does have white-spot in his tank... will the caulerpa transfer it?

I thought of getting some, doing a quick freshwater dip, and then adding to my sump.. not adding his water at all?

Advice anyone?
