Can someone please advise on how high i would need to put a 150w 20000k MH on my 90cm (100l) tank? I would not like to cook my fish and coral! Would it be alright to put on my tank or should i rather stick wit t5's? -
Iodine Testing

Hey guys/gals,
Tested my Iodine today with a Salifert test kit (New).
I'm a bit freaked out because I'm unable to detect Iodide nor Iodate.
Both tests show up as crystal clear and that includes the 2 part test of iodate. Am I missing something or can it be possible? I changed over to a new tank 2 weeks ago so lots of fresh salt mix went into the system. I have however added quite a few sps pieces and I do have a huge caulerpa farm which I have read could obsorb iodine.
I would have believed the test if I didn't add all the new salt mix about 2 weeks ago but can't believe that it could have been absorbed that fast.
I can't really tell if corals have less colour because my water is a bit cloudy from a biopellet bacterial bloom. My shrimps have beem extra shy though and haven't seen any of them molt in awhile now.
Advice? (Got a bottle of Brightwells Iodine on hand). -

I am setting up a 1200x800x500 SPS reef tank, and its going to be 3 sides viewable so the SPS and rock will be in the center of the tank about 700x400 foot print, what is the light dispersal on the ILLUMILUX range, would one ILLUMILUX 1200 be sufficient as the main light across the center of the tank 15cm above or 2 x ILLUMILUX 900 over the center,

We have the guys from Red Sea comming over for a visit on Saterday at 1:00
to meet us and have a chat - i put the offer through that we get the Cape Town reef junkies and all others whou want to come and listen and ask a few questions on there products to come join us...
For this to happen i whould like to get a rough count sothat we can get you guys some snacks ( Hallal ofcoarse )and cooldrinks for the chat .

Alternative to a DSB?

Hey guys
I've been reading up on DSBs a lot lately.
now from what I understand is that DSBs need quite a bit of surface area to be effective(numbers like 400x500mm min come to mind).
Looking at my stand and proposed cabinet this might not be possible.
Is there an alternative to a DSB that would have the same or nearly the same effect?

Hi all.
i have been part of the forum for some time , and appreciate all the input that goes into the site.
while there is a wealth of info , i feel there is too much for someone to take in as a beginner , and this is the reason i have put this hobby off for so long.
i think too much info , makes people scared ( as i was) and very hesitant to start the hobby.
while many people in the fish hobby realize it is a constant drain on the wallet, together with a whole lot of other problems, i must admit , the forum put the fear of god in me to start , especailly since many people make you think this is rocket science.
i have chatted to many people , while picking up quality second hand equipment , and they all seem to say it isnt that difficult.
so i am on my way to starting my tank , but getting all my hardware and stuff now, getting my tank cycled and then will start with livestock next year.
i have taken good warning , not to be in any rush, at all.
i have many questions , that i have picked up from reading various post the forum , and to find final answers is difficult, as i guess everyone and there setup is unique.
so my first question is - dosing or Reactors.
the reason why i am asking , is that with many large tanks you see on the forum, the setups are with large reactors , co2 bottles and charmers to run , a hundred million different things.
my tank at the moment , is a 1.8m x 70cm x 70 , with 1.5 m sump and eventually this setup will get bigger (obviously).
i wanted to know do you invest in reactors and stirrers , or go , the dosing route and invest in say a profilux doser .
i wanted to know the pros and cons of each method.
