Nitrates to high

Higuys im siting with a problem, my nitrates stay at 50 Even after doing a 33% water change. All the other parametors are corect and even my corals look happy but i lost a fire shrimp and a boxer shrimp. I would very much like to get two cleaner shrimp but i first want to get the nitrates right and stable.
Can anny body help with ideas?
I do 33% water changes a month and use Seachem reef Salt. -
cycling a dsb without a skimmer??

Hi guys so I'm going to upgrade from a 600l to a 1000l system,and I'd like the new system to be a dsb and so I thought I can start the new one up and cycle it and then if finished cycling I can move my skimmer and everything else over -

I am new to the marine side of fish keeping.. my setup is only month or 2 old.
My main concern is brown algae, how do i reduce the amount of it in the tank or will it cycle out eventually?
And secondly, my skimmer is not consistent with producing a skimmate and works wonders for week then nothing for another week
Tank is 200 liters with live stock of 1 clown, 1 damsel, 1 klipvis, 1 molly. 7kg liverock with a hermit crab and snails galore.

I've been keeping water my whole life but I don't have an aquarium right now. Would like to get one soon but life keeps getting in the way.

I'm looking for some advice,my dt temp is running at about 28degrees,with the heaters lf. How can i bring it safely down to 25,and keeping it constant,without a chiller. My dt is 1800x600x600,i'm also running a small ats,and considered running a small fan over it. Any ideas? -

Hey peeps, been reading the threads on lighting but didn't get the answer I'm looking for so now you guys and gals so help me on this one.
I just changed my hood using aluminium channels sprayed white. Now with the space it offers I can load up with 12 T5's but I will be using 39W. Center channel is reversed so it sits lower than the outside two.
I have the following:
* 4 - 10 000k white
* 3 - coral blue
* 2 - aqua pink
* 2 - power glo (reddish)
* 2 - coral stars (blue)
In my mind I'm leaning toward using 10 of them.
So which would work/look best? I have a rather mixed reef.

The true story - Marltons

Hello to everyone.
My name is Gavin Faulds - General Manager and one of the shareholders of Marltons Pets and Products CC.
Just a short note to set a very wobbly record straight regarding rumours that Marltons has an ownership share in Sam's Aquarium - Brackenfell.
Those rumours could not be further from the truth and are laughable in the extreme, but in our industry such rumours are used by people to exploit and manipulate situations, hence this post.
In fact if all the rumours in our trade are to be believed, then Marltons would have a share in every pet store in Africa!!!! I wish....
Perhaps it is the fact that one of our ex-Sales Managers, Chris Barnard, who resigned from our company and now manages the shop on behalf of Sam, that people may draw some link and put 1 and 1 together and get 14. Chris resigned and left our employment in November 2011. We have no links with him, other than as a the manager of a customer - Sams.
I would encourge Ebrahim and Sam, of Sams Aquarium to comment on this post and put such rumours to bed once and for all.

Anenome Crabs and My Corals..

I am posting here as I have been searching the internet without luck :blush:
I have two porcelain anenome crabs which I have had in my tank for just over two weeks now. Thing is I do not have any anenomes. What I do have is a green bubble tipped torch coral and a green elegance coral. You can see where I am going with this :whistling:
Anyways the crabs are making these two corals their homes. My concern is will the corals accept their new "residents" who insist on chilling right in the centre of them or will they freak out and eventually starve as they hide?
I am hoping the former pans out but is there anyone who has had this possible problem before and it worked out?
