Hi all,
Firstly before I get asked:
Salinity: 1026 - refractometer
Phos: 0.1 - Hanna checker
Nitrate: 10ppm - Salifit
Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0
Alk: 12.2 (been running it high always even when they were happy)
Mag: 1350
Calc: 460'
I run the nitrate a bit higher for the clams - don't have any SPS well have one but its a hitch hiker - encrusting Monti but its brown (yes I know why)
So what is happening:
All my corals are running super healthy, all extended all splitting heads, clams got new extensions on it, big zoas all multiplying like rabbits and pulsating xenia now becoming a pest.
What's the problem, well I have a category for my Zoas big ones and small ones - simple enough. The big ones are the ones 10 cent size and bigger the small ones either a match head or up to 10c ***NOTE: they stay this size***
What I have notice is all the big Zoas =<10c are growing like hell but I can't seem to keep the smaller Zoas 10c<.
Good examples:
1. I had what they call hand picked serbert zoas loads of tiny (only a single match head size) dark orange Zoas - they lasted a month.
2. The pictures you see below is my fav Zoas. When I got them they were the only ones on the rock with one or two of the others (circled in blue). As you can see over the space of three months the big Zoas have grown and the small Zoas have almost completely disappeared :(
What have I checked for:
1. I looked for a month every night at all the hours of the night and the early morning for any nudi's, snails etc - found nothing (only yesterday found a BIGGGG snail see ID forum)
2. Looked for flat worm - nothing
What I have done:
1. Dipped them in:
1.1. Brightwell Coral Dip
1.2 Coral X
1.3 Seachem coral dip
2. Given them a fresh water dip
3. Moved them to all places in the tank from high light little flow, to little light high flow etc
No matter what I can't keep these "small" Zoas alive. Seems like they the same as RIC's they just disappear in my tank...
Anyone know whats going on?
