Well after 8 yrs of running my DSB it was starting to get very tired, my NO3 levels started to slowly creep up. I was now faced with a decesion weather to go with a new DSB or move on and keep up with changes in the hobby, eventually decided on the latter. I have removed the DSB and decided to go with the Berlin method of live rock and strong skimming. I have also added 1L of Bio pellets into 2 reactors to aid the control of nitrates and phosphates. In my calculation i will eventually need around 2 - 3L of pellets but i have started with half the amount, hoping to avoid the pending bacterial bloom as the NO3 levels have crept up to about the 30 mark. I do not wish to run a ULNS so will be adding pellets slowly until i get the NO3 level to about 5. Any advice on the use of the pellets would be greatly appreciated.
