got my hammer coral about a 3 weeks ago, had a bit of damage from shipping. a few days later it started getting brown jelly on skeleton, so i fragged the bad part off, as well as some good part. hammer was going strong for about 2 weeks, growing and extending nicely. now when i look this morning, looks like the hammer is retracting a bit, and looks like brown jelly again. what to do? params are all in check.

So i have been wondering about my water temps since one of the 300W Jager's stopped working.
I have a Marina thermometer which is reading 24C at the moment in the water. I also have a Buyo suction one that reads 29C. Then I have a cheapie bought on Ebay which reads 28C.
The heaters are set at 27C.
What the heck must i trust? Would getting one of those floating mercury types ones give me a more correct reading?

Ok, I saw some little metalic looking round bubble algae on the back of a small mushroom rock. I pulled it out and went to try to scrape off the bubble algae and rinse the rock with tank water. One of them broke and squirted in my eyes! I had safety glasses with side shields on, but it still got me. (Guess I should have had diving goggles on.) Am going to have problems from getting that stuff in my eyes?

hi guys, my yellow clown goby was eating when i got him, he was eating fine fattened up and grew in length for the last 2 weeks. in the last couple days he has started looking really bad and acting strange, breathing heavily, is barely eating now whereas he was a pig a couple days ago. he is staying away from the liverock, he is sitting on the return pump outlet nozzle at the top of the tank, and is deathly afraid of the everything moving in the tank, where he was brave and keen to investigate everything that was happening outside and inside the tank.
he looks like he has little yellow bumps all over him, he is still bright yellow.
I feed him twice a day, with tmc nano marine cuisine which contains: brineshrimp with garlic, mysis, rotifers, copepods, chopped mussel, chopped squid, chopped spinach. during the day he used to munch on the pods that cover the glass, the glass is still covered with them.
I have noticed that the pom pom crab is interested in him, and is quite aggressive towards him, it looks like she tries to sting the goby with the pom poms, every time he is near her.
Water parameters:
25 degrees celsius
pH 8.2
ammonia 0 ppm
nitrite 0 ppm
nitrate 5ppm
salt is 1.024
everything else in the tank is looking good.
Any ideas or advice i can do to get my goby back to a pristine condition?
(mods if this is in the wrong thread please move it into the correct one)
Thank you.

Some 35yrs ago i remember my dad keeping a fish tank with 1 Anemone and what i since learn't was a maroon clown fish (i think). Sadly i also remember a mercury thermo being broke by a mantis shrimp and killing everything. I've had fresh water and tropical fish tanks with great success and recently sold off my tropical fish and dumped a load of sea salt into the tank! there its done! ahah not exactly like that but you get the story.. :)
Now all the research, you tube, google, yahoo, forums and shop sites there is a hell of a lot of conflicting information. strange. anyway i have a few questions for you bofs :P
Temperature?
What is the ideal temperature of a marine tank? Through my research on youtube and other sites i gathered it was between 72F and 76F however i've recently discovered this page from a shop near me suggesting the temperature should be 25C-29C which converted is 77F to 84F
My tank is constant at 25C (77F)
So what is the ideal temperature, and should i raise mine?
Salinity
Again conflicting information allover. Most say 1.021 yet ive seen on this forum 1.024 - 1.026
My tank is at 1.023
Thanks for any info :)

Hi Guys .
Firstly I hope that i have posted this thread in the right place . I'm still pretty new to this form and still busy setting up my first marine tank.
I was in the LFS the today and noticed some fan / tube worms ( think thats what they are called) .
I took a liking to them and asked one of they guys working there about them and it did not seem that he had much of an idea of what he was talking about and thought I'll better ask you guys first .
I was wondering if you guys could give me some info about them and how to care for them . Also how dependant they are on lighting and how reef safe they are .
I want to set up a reef tank with fish and invertabrates that would give me the least amount of worry about weather or not they gonna give me any problems .
Thanks for the help ,

Hey guys
I have gone the np pellet route and bid farewell to my dsb. Recently I had a lack of alkalinity as there was no evaporation and thus no kalkwasser being dosed. This was met with a shocking discovery - my phospates went from 0 to 2.5. This is obviously from the precipitated phosphates leaching back into my system!!! I also could not understand until now why my np pellets weren't working. This was due to have np pellets work the bacteria need a bit of p04 to aspirate for the nitrate consumption to work!!! Will be monitoring things in the week to come!!!!
Your take on this?

Hey guys I just realized my skimmer is not doing its job, it stops working within a month. So i spoke to my LFS owner and he says I should get a TS skimmer. My tank is 300L with 100L sump so he said TS2 will do the job. Does anyone know of someone or is anyone planning on selling a ReefTek TS2 skimmer that can still do the job. Mabye someone professional can give me advice on another skimmer but does the same job, it's just I'm not ready to pay R2000, it's over my budget:(
Thanx in advance:)

Hey all long time no see...
Work has been keeping me busy so havnt had much or any time to chat online.
My tank has jsut been fishless for some time now.
I have an issue about a week ago i started noticing some holes out my Big pin & Kenya & pink tree.. they are large and today one of them have completely been torn part from the base. on close inspection , i see Co-pods goind mental and all over the place.
Are co-pods or whateva they are called eating my soft corals?
They are millions in my tank as there is nothing to eat them, all over my glass ..
Maybe they aint co-pods and somthing else. can some please post an image of one so i know i havnt got somthing else breeding like mad in my tank
Thanks so much
Regards
Aj

UGood day all,
I have a sump running like this 1st chamber ts1 skimmer overflowing into a dsb with live rock on egg crate above and cheato, 3rd chamber purigen, chemipure and phosogaurd, last chamber return pump and pump for chiller.
Question i have, i have seen many petshops have ceramic rings and bio balls intergrated in there sumps. Exotic, pet masters etc all have it running. They all are running reef systems.
My tank is new and im running my cycle with live rock and stability, will be adding prodibo soon ;)
