i have been given a speech to do for school and I obviously want to do it on marine life:thumbup: but im not too sure what i should speak about, i want it to be something a bit different that most people dont hear about everyday

if you can please help me with some good topics i would really appreciate it:)

OK so I have been busy for 2 days trying to figure out what I need to start with and I came up with this.

List of things I might need:

-An Aquarium and a Stand (I'm aiming for a 150L to 200L Deep tank).
-Aragonite Substrate (Live Sand + small sand + rough sand).
-Dry Rock and/or Live Rock.
-RO/DI Unit (Reverse Osmosis filter).
-Salt Mix (Stuff you buy in buckets).
-Heater or 4.
-Thermometer.
-Hydrometer (For water density).
-Power heads (Water Pumps + Wave Makers, for random water flow).
-Test Kits (for Salt-water use) Like 10 of these things. Ammonia, Nitrate, Calcium etc...
-Salt water Mixing Buckets (Brand new and only used for salt water)
-Reef Grade Lights (OOOOO Well this is a whole subject on it's own, complicated)
-Sump + accessories (Bio-filtration tank)
-Return Pump
-Overflow in tank
-PVC Piping (plumbing)
-Protein Skimmer ( Not sure if I need this but it would seem I do).
-Time, Money, Patience and a love for the aquatics.

Is this about right?

Hi guys

I was going to setup this tank however travel plans and funds are not permitting me to go through with it.

All items are brand new! Have never touched water..

1.5L x 60W x 60H custom made tank in 10mm glass with corner o'flow and 50mm hole.
1.5L x 60W x 80H galvanized steel stand with corner supports and painted with NS4 anti rust.
1.2L x 45W x 45H sump with dividers for skimmer/dsb/return sections.

I have a vinyl sticker for the back of the tank and perspex which has been cut with teeth to cover the overflow. Both are blue in color.

I paid R4200 for all of the above at the end of last year and am open to offers.

I will not be able to deliver this.. so collection only.

Excuse the pictures not looking straight.. I was using my GF's camera and didn't feel like putting on the std lens.

Hi guys, I'm a new guy from Springbok, Northern Cape. I have a marine tank +- one year. I have plenty of problems in the beginning, but now its up and running with hardly any problems. I've build my own filter 200liter and works perfect. I get my water from the sea. The sea is about 170km from Springbok. I transport 1000l per trip. I will soon put photos on of my marine tank. Hi I love the look of sps and have had one test frag in my tank for about 3 months now seems happy with the lighting ect so now I am looking for a few more colorful small frags if any one has some going cheap my tank is primarily local specimens but unfortunately the regulations don't allow us to collect sps so they unfortunately have to be foreigners ;)
Wet vs. Dry skimming.

Hey guys.

Thought i would start this thread for all the new guys....(and me).

What is the difference/purpose between wet and dry skimming?

Pro's and Con's of either form of skimming?

And then lastly, will it not be beter instead of one over rated skimmer, to have 2 slightly smaller skimmers. One skimming wet and the other one skimming dry??
Or will that cancel eachother out?

Hi All

I need advice please. I need -+ 30kg of live rock or more for my tank. I was thinking of buying 10kg of live rock and 20kg of dead rock and seed it with the live rock.
I would like to know will this work? How long does it usually take before it becomes live and where in CPT can I buy dead rock. I dont mind if my cycling takes a bit longer than usual
As I have some home renovation project going on so it will give my budget some time to recover before I start buying my precious livestock. :confused1:
