Hi all
So I came home yesterday afternoon 16:00, walking past my tank I hear noises coming from it. Only the DT tank is full of water started filling it on Monday +-200L I just need to fill the sump still then its all systems go, or so I thought.
I had a power head in the tank to cycle the water until I can switch on all the pumps. So I switched of the power head and the funny noise goes away anyway thinking to myself it is a second hand power head its ok. So starting to make supper and in between making supper I finished the plumbing for my skimmer. I put the skimmer in the sump and stand back looking all impress with myself everything is now all connected just fill the sump and switch on its now 16:20 . O wait I forgot the ADT guy was supposed to come to me to give quotations and stuff at 16:30. 16:25 the phones ring ADT guy lost. Explained to him how to get to me put the phone down, as I press the red button the tank burst at the back on the seam. (1/4 tank drained under 5min) In matter of seconds I uttered some swear words the ones I am normally not allowed to say when the wife is around or in special occasions like this. And the same time the ADT guys stops in front of the house. Anyway between me the ADT guy and my Father which lives 5min down the road which I phoned to come and help we got the tank empty no damage to the house or furniture as I moved it the moment the tank bust and most of our furniture is made out of wood. So the big clean-up took about an hour and a half all before the wife got home all back the way it was like nothing happened. 19:30 wife got home told her the store not impress not the tank needs to get a new place living room is now no go. 20:25 time to update MASA get my laptop out switch on invalid system disk ***, reboot comes up, thinking its may be just the bios forgetting the boot priority. Opened MASA website black screen laptop frozen, reboot again check event log dis errors starting 08:27 drive #^&$* so yes that was my day yesterday.

Preparing Coral Skeletons

I was given a box of coral skeletons which i thought would make for some nice scaping in the future.
They have apparently been in a box for about 10 years (Maybe going on 20 :eek:)
What would i need to do to them in order to use them in the tank?

Manic's DIY Led Build

Hey Everyone,
So some of you may have caught wind that I am planning a DIY led build.
So here's all the details. List of components I have:
- Bridgelux 3W Royal Blue Led Stars
- Bridgelux 3W 12 000K White Led Stars
- Bridgelux 3W 6500K White Led Stars
- 60 Degree Optics
- 80 Degree Optics
- Dimmable LED Drivers (12 - 20 3W LEDS Each)
- Heat Sink
- Thermal Epoxy
Alright so those are the main components. I've got all the wire and everything else.
The heat sink I managed to get hold of is 600mm x 190mm.
So here is where I need your input. How many leds should I use?
(Tank is 1000mm x 600mm x 450mm High (Water Level: 420mm)
Mainly keeping sps and clams.
I've got plenty of each led but still am unsure of how many to use and more specifically how many of each colour? -

Ive created a group here at work for Marine messages - invited 3 staff.
they accepted.
My BB group shows 4 members ( including myself ) , but 2 are unavailable with the red circle and x through it.
It only shows up as unavailable on my cell though .
Ive deleted and made new groupes and reinvited them , but it always comes up as unavailable from these two guys here at work >>.
Its crazy !
Ive tryed the net and found the same questions , but there wernt any solutions -
Anybody got a sugestion ?

emergency: haveto use mini in tank brine shrimp hatcher!

my new yellow clown goby hasnt eaten yet and is losing weight so i decapsulated brine shrimp eggs and have put hatcher under branches of coral that clown goby sits in. as they hatch and leave the hatcher they will be right in front of clown goby. hope he likes them in a few hours time

Polonged use of NP Pellets

Hi Guys,
Having searched and read through most of the posts on NP Pellets, i would like to know of success stories or failure from using NP Pelletts, reason being is in the initial stages during the hype alot of success stories were told, id like to know from long term users what their opinions are, as ive heard of softies bleaching as a result of stripping the tank of Nitrates and phosphates.
I set up my sump to utilise a DSB however i came accross the NP Pellet debate and am currently opting to go this root but would like to know if im heading on the right track. Ive read that more success was gained when using it on initial startup so i plan to do just that as the tank is not yet up and running.
As the sump was planned to house a dsb and fuge id like to know if a fuge can be kept whilst using NP Pellets? If im not using maro algea will the pods survive in the dark within some LR rubble? I will mod the sump if need be. Most guys place NP Reactor in return chamber and feed the overflow from reactor to skimmer inlet, could i restructure my sump so that i can have NP Reactor > SKimmer> Phos Reactor > Refugiam> Return. The fuge is purely for housing of pods as i would like to keep a mandarin in the future.
Total System Volume is +-720 litres. Will a Reef Octopus NW 200 rated at 900 liters be sufficient or should i supplement with another.
I will endevour to stock lightly in the initial stages and should i find Nitrate and Phosphates not reducing i could supplement with a bigger skimer later as im aware that a skimmer 3 times the volume is required for pellets. Will a much less rated skimer not prevent nitrates and phosphates from being stripped entirely?
I will be running phos remover in a Reef Oct reactor.
How many guys using pellets have less than 3 times the rated Skimmer? -
DSLR advice

Okay I have been looking for a Cheap DSLR for a while and I have been offered a Nikon D60 for a good price.
Is this a good camera?
Would you recommmend it?
This will be my first DSLR, but I want somethimg that I can keep for a while, not some thing too basic that i will want to upgrade in a years time.
I was looking for a good second hand Canon 450/500D as I have played around with one and I really like them.
I have never used a Nikon before....
Any advice from the "pro's" would be very welcome.
