  Bristleworm eating red bubble algae

  Tonight I observed something I have never seen before. A bristleworm seemed to be eating a piece of red bubble algae. It ingested it and you could even see the bulge of the bubble as it moved down the length of its body. It then proceeded onto another piece of red bubble algae completely covering it with it's mouth parts, tearing it off and swallowing it.
  
  Has anyone else seen a bristleworm do this? I didn't know that bubble algae was part of their diet!

  HELP - Skimmer going crazy

  Hi all
  
  I just recently regenerated my Purigen by soaking it in bleach and then using Seachem's Prime to remove the chlorine, etc from the Purigen. Afterwards I soaked the Purigen in RO water and then placed it into an internal filter in my tank. After I did that my protein skimmer has been foaming like crazy and I have foam in my sump.
  
  I read afterwards that some slime coat products can have this effect on the skimmer because it changes the surface tension of the water. And Seachem's Prime does contain slime coat in it.
  
  I switched off my skimmer yesterday to stop it from foaming up the entire sump cabinet. Is there anything I can do to stop it from producing excessive foam? I've even turned it down to it's lowest possible setting and it didn't help. It's a Reeftek TS1.
  
  Any advice would be appreciated.

  bangaiis in quarantine tank

  Hi all
  
  I have a couple of bangaii cardinals in my quarantine tank. Is there anything I can do to ensure that they are as healthy as possible? Any nutritional supplements I can add to their food or to the water?
  
  I will do a small water change mid-week and a 20% water change every weekend.

  porcelain crab

  Hi all
  
  Does anyone have any experience with Porcelain crabs? It is a hitchhiker on my live rock and I saw it for the first time last night - my tank has had the live rock in it for two months now. I have some dwarf zebra hermit crabs in my tank now. Not sure how safe they are together.
  
  Can't get a picture of it to show you - but it has the filter fans at the end of it's foremost legs and appears to be a purple colour. Very evasive crab.

  what to first introduce into your tank?

  Hi all
  
  My tank is currently cycling with the live rock and it's been four weeks. Can't say that it's all been easy - staring at the green hair algae is enough to drive anyone insane :D But anyway, patience is key.
  
  I'm going to wait another four weeks before I introduce anything into the tank, but I just wanted to know what would be a good selection to start. The LFS has suggested some blue chromis but I'm not too certain about doing that as I read that they are schooling fish and you should keep at least six of them.
  
  My tank is about 250L and I really want to stock lightly but varied. Any suggestions as to what I can start off with?

  PS. I have this really pretty cluster of something, the whole mass cannot be bigger than a 1cm across. Any ideas what it is?

  Please help ID some critters

  Hi all
  
  Well, my tank is finally up and running. It's only been a day and I have seen some critters running around and wondered if anyone could help ID them.
  
  This is a pic of my tank - it's about 250L and I've got about 18kg's of Indonesian live rock in it.
  
  
  
  These are some of the critters I have seen - also noticed some bristle worms but haven't been able to take a photo of any just yet. Also two "baby" mantis shrimp that scurried for the rock when I switched the lights on. One was about 10mm and the other 5mm big. Think they are mantis shrimp - were almost a translucent green colour.
  
  Some of these pics aren't the best - so apologies in advance.
  
  This crab is particularly hairy and I'm gathering will be no good for my tank in the long run (I've seen about six of them so far)
  
  
  
  More worrying are these little anemones that I've seen on certain pieces of rock, can anyone ID whether this is aiptasia or majano? Most are not bigger than about 5mm - so pretty small at the moment.
  
  
  
  
  
  
  And I'm assuming these are Feather Duster worms - seen also a few these on the rock
  
  
  
  any tips or advice you can give me?

  Adding live rock and live sand

  Hi All
  
  Today I am finally adding my live rock to the tank. I also bought some Arag-Alive for my DSB. Can I add the live sand to the DSB at the same time as I place the live rock in? The live rock is either partially or fully cured by now.

  return pump

  Hi all
  
  I'm starting up a 200L system which is about a 1m across. I have two return pumps that I could use - one is rated at 1000lph and the other at 1750lph (both Hailea). If I have approximately 1.5m to 2m from the return pump to the tank which would be better to use?

  buying LR with aiptasia

  I have been looking at Live Rock recently and have seen some with visible Aiptasia on it. Is this perfectly normal? And would it just be inviting trouble if I had to buy it like that?

  Black substrate?

  I've been thinking about going with Caribsea's Hawaiian Black aragonite substrate. Does anyone on this forum use black substrate? I'm just not sure what it would look like and would really like to see it in someone's photos.

  Adding cured live rock to a new tank

  Hi everyone
  
  If you are starting off a marine tank and adding already cured live rock is it necessary to add it to slowly? or can you add all the cured live rock to the tank at once? Most of the articles I've read mostly speak about uncured live rock so I was just wondering.
