  Henk's DIY light unit

  Well I as the title states I am going to attempt to make my own light unit.
  
  I have a few questions regarding the building process , which is why I am looking for advice from the DIY'ers.
  
  I am planning to make the frame from wood, so what type of wood can I use and what is the best product to make it waterproof or is that unnecessary?
  
  And where can I buy t8 ballasts, end caps and the rest of the requirements in PE at a reasonable price ?
  
  Any advice will be appreciated.

  My first taste of the FOWLR...

  Afternoon to all.
  
  I decided to take a leap and post my tank...
  
  Quick info:
  
  Display - 1800 x 500 x 610 - 10mm glass
  Sump - 1700 x 400 x 340 - 6mm glass
  
  Skimmer : Reef Octopus 160XS
  Heating : 1 x 200w Jager
  1 x 300w Natural
  
  Return pump 4500l/h
  
  The plan is to make it a FOWLR. This will give me the opportunity to get a good understanding of the hobby...
  
  Here is a few pics. The rock is diy live rock. ( It will be filled by the end of the week ) and excuse the photos, not my best effort.

  I am looking for a pump to run my berlin xl tripple pass skimmer.
  a 3000l/h pump or anything that will be the best for this skimmer.

  Is this really illegal???

  I am busy looking for pumps to run my skimmer and to pump the water back to the DT.
  
  I phone this one store ( not a pet shop ) and the guy told me it is illegal to place pumps under water. :confused1:
  The guys solution was to use a small swimming pool pump to pump the water back to the DT.
  I guess it was a mistake to tell this to my father as he is now very skeptical.

  I want to know what size ( l/h ) return pump I need to get for my system.
  It will be a fish only system.
  
  The systems total volume is around 820 liters, so the running volume will be a bit less than that.
  Any suggestion will be appreciated.

  Can anyone advice me on the best way to connect pumps to these so that I can create the best flow possible. ( I believe this was used for a closed loop system )

  Hi everybody...
  
  Well I am a total neewbie to saltwater aquariums but I have had a freshwater tank for number of years...
  
  I am in the processes of buying a new aquarium...
  
  I can get a tank 1.1m x 0.5m x 0.5 m or
  a tank that is 1.2 m long... i dont have the other dimensions will only get it tomorrow ....
  
  any advice on which one I should buy.... :blush:
