Sand Sifting Sea Star Help

I been worried about my star fish as I have just learned i need live sand so my star fish won't starve to death. I have CC and apparently it has all the living organisms the star needs to sustain it's life in the tank, but i'm also told it will eat all the living organisms and the sand will be rendered "dead".... so whats any different from CC and live sand. I add food, vitamins, and nutrients in every 3 days. Calcium 2 times a week and iodine once a week. Is this not enough for it? Or should I get live sand which will end up dead in any case? :confused1: -
Help about mantis shrimp

I'm new to having an aquarium and I really enjoy it. I've been hearing these clicking noises similar to that of a scrape. I have been beginning to notice a lot of holes and tunnels formed in my live rock. I have been looking on the internet and i have found that the noises come from what is called a "Mantis Shrimp" and it's burrowing through my live rock. I would like to know how i can get rid of it besides pouring soda water, fresh water or boiling water into the tunnels/holes because I'm told, by my lfs, that in doing so I would have to begin the "curing" process all over again. Please could you help me... I'm clueless at the moment... Thank you.
