I have an Xbox 360 - 250 gig with 2 control pads, kinetic and 6 games, plus 1 on the console itself for sale...brand new....2 months old hardly used...impulse buy and now I am bored of consoles again. Over R7000 worth of items here...wanting R4500. :)
Second on the auction block is a Galaxy P1000 ...er...what else is there to say about this, its the smaller size model than the new 10.1 :P ...new as well roughly a month old now, wife bought it for work and decided it wasnt necessary as she could do all she needs to on her HTC :) Asking R4000.

Too Much Emphasis Being Put on PO4 Readings?

Lately I have read a lot of threads on SA forums, heard a lot of discussions in LFS and been involved in a lot of discussions with fellow reefers about Phosphates. There seems to be a lot of people thinking that getting ideal phosphate readings is going to cure all the problems with your tank. Below are just my feelings on the subject.
I am not a big one for taking readings of nitrates and phosphates as I feel I know my tank well enough to be able to see if there is a problem serious enough in those areas that I need to look into it, however with all the talk of late I decided to get my PO4 tested. The reading on the Hana Meter came back as 0.35ppm. On telling some fellow reefers this, the response was "Thats VERY high" "you should be concerned" "your corals are going to die" etc...
Yes I will be the first to admit that it is generally not an ideal reading, but here is why I think that those kind of comments are a load of rubbish...if we go according to what we read on phosphates corals growth should be stunted, lack of colour should be occuring and corals in general should be pretty unhappy but looking at my tank I would say there is nothing to worry about...SPS are growing at a decent rate, they are colouring up a lot since I got them a month or so back and there is good polyp extention. LPS are growing and looking good as well and there is no nuisance algae to speak of.
What I am trying to get at is, phosphates are not the only thing that is going to effect you corals in specifically your sps in terms of them doing well. Too much emphasis has been put on this Golden phosphate number of 0.03ppm and if your phosphates are not at this then you wont succeed at sps and I think a lot of people are beginning to think that if they can achieve this reading then all their problems are going to go away.
Phosphates are only one part of the puzzle, I feel that if you have ideal lighting, ideal flow, are keeping all your other parameters at the correct levels and corals are getting the suppliments that they are needing such as amino acids and vitimins your corals are still going to do well...granted if you do get your phosphates down to that almost undetectible level you will obviously get better colouring.
Another idea I have is that Corals will adapt to their environment and if po4 is constantly higher than ideally it should be I would think they will eventually adapt to this...just my thoughts on that anyway.
Anyone else got any thoughts on the subject? :blush: -
CO2 Refill Eastern Cape Area

Does anyone know where I can get my Co2 refilled in the eastern cape...I have tried all over East London and nobody seems to be able to help or know where I can get it done.
I am going to PE for the weekend tomorow so if any of the PE guys know of a place that does it there, I can take it with me to get refilled. -

I just noticed last night the "thanks" button is missing...what happened to it? Are we supposed to be using the "agree" button now to give ppl rep? Cause I dont think ppl are using it for that purpose. -

Has anyone got any info on the above? Our LFS got one in a little while ago...not for sale as he cant find any info on them on the net...I tried to look for info as well and came up empty handed...this little guy really intrigues me and is definately not something you see every day...wouldnt mind a tank just for him. :)

Awesome 3D Movie

So I got some 3D movies from Amazon on Friday and thought I would share this awesome movie with you guys.
Ocean Wonderland is filmed by Jean-Michael Cousteau, and is definately a treat for anyone who loves marines and has a 3D tv. Most of the footage is filmed between the Great Barrier Reef and the Bahamas and even being 4 years old really takes full advantage of the 3D features making you feel like you are actually down in the deeps of the ocean yourself...with fish swimming all around you and large sps species branching right out of your tv screen!
Definately a worth while view for anyone young or old. :) -

Anyone know what kind of Monti this is? It definately seems like an encrusting type, but the peaks coming up off it so to speak have me confused...its not a danae thats for sure.

Getting rid of my Niger Triggger. Completely reef safe...ever touched a fish, coral or invert. Eats like a pig and enjoys a good piece of Nori with the Tangs now and then. :)
Reason for Selling: He has found a spot in my substrate that he has decided there is food in and keeps digging it up covering all the bottom dwelling corals next to it with sand.
Will do well in a BB tank. :lol:
In my sump at the moment so needs to go fast. -
My Mini Carpet Anemones

So these guys are quickly becoming the in thing to keep all over the world and the craze is now hitting our shores.
Coming in beautiful colours and being easy to keep and propogate I am sure we will see a lot around in the next few months.
So why not post pics of your Mini Carpet Anemones here so we can all see them. :)
I will start it off.
I bought three of these little guys this morning that came in on the Vietnam shipment last night. One Maroon and green, one Pink and green and one Dark green with a lighter shade of green running through it.
Here are some pics after just being introduced into the tank as well as a pic that I took this evening of them. Sorry for the bad pics, will try and take better ones tomorrow.

RBTA's & GBTA's in the Same Tank

Can you shed some light on the whole rumour that you cant keep RBTA's and GBTA's in the same tank?
I have read and heard mixed stories with regard to keeping them together, I have seen pics of tanks with both colours in the same tank and everthing is fine and yet I have heard stories of chemical warfare between the two if kept in the same tank and its usually always the RBTA that lands up dying.
A local reefer I know used to breed both species for years and had more than 20 of each colour at one point, until one day he placed a GBTA in the tank with his RBTA's and he landed up loosing all but one of the RBTA's.
Are there factors that would cause the two to fight if the stories are true in some circumstances?
Reason I ask this is I have had a RBTA for a long time now and brought it back from the size and colour of a golf ball to a BIG bright red beauty and am thinking of adding a GBTA that my friend is selling, to my tank...after all the RBTA has been through I would hate to kill it by adding the GBTA is the stories are true. -

Wanting to get rid of a few of my corals.
the Sun Corals I want to get rid of cause I am trying to make my tank more sell sufficient and they are anything but that. The two normal suns I want R100 for the one on the LHS and R75 for the one on the RHS. Both I have had for ages.
The second pic is the black branching. I want R150 fo itr, had it for about 5 months now and it opens up beautifully...just a bit of tissue loss on the brances but heads are still fine.
The third pic is the Rainbow Acan, its in the worst possible place for light and really is not getting what it needs to thrive so I would prefer to sell it. A bargain at R150.
Lastly is my blue Candy Cane, wanting R150...its got about 20 heads...my Queen Angel took a liking to it so its been sumped and needs to go.
Prefer EL guys as I dont like shipping its too much of a mission. -
Calcium Reactor and Tank PH

I got myself a Tunze Calcium Reactor last week from Scubaninja and after a week of trying to figure it out I think I have finally got the thing running as it should. My only problem now is, is that my tank seems to be running at a Ph of 7.89 sometimes a little lower at 7.83 sometimes a little higher at 7.94
My question is, is it safe for my tank to be running at this level? Before the reactor my tank was generally sitting at 8.1 -
My Queen Angel

I posted this in my tank thread, but thought I would start a new thread of its own.
I took the plunge and bought a Queen Angel this afternoon from the US shipment that came in last night. 2 very healthy looking specimens came in...one small juvinile and one larger one...I went for the larger as it seemed more relaxed was pecking at rocks and glass for food and was not shy at all of people.
First placed him in the DT, but he got a bit of flack from the Flame Angel and Coral Beauty... didnt think that would happen as its not a Dwarf? So for now he is in the sump and seems calm and relaxed. There is lots of sponges etc down there that he is already pecking at so I am sure that helps as well. Added a rock with some Nori on it and he immidiately went and checked it out...not pecking at it so far though.
Not too worried about him eating just yet, new fish need time to settle down after being shipped imo so will see how he goes in the next few days.
Now I am not sure what to do...do I leave him in there for a good couple of days let him settle in and get his strength back or place him in the DT tonight after lights out?
Reason I am thinking the second option is because my Black Bean was beaten pretty badly when first introduced, but on seeing this I turned off the tank lights and left them so until the following day, the next day it was as if he had been in the tank for years and nobody even gave him a second glance. Would this be the case maybe with the Queen?
Also any other info from guys that have kept them that can help me keep happy and healthy and get it on the eating path in the future, as I have read they can be problematic to get to take prepared foods some times.

East London guys I have a few pieces of kenyan liverock sitting in my sump at the moment that I recently took out of my tank due to a reshuffle of corals and rocks....There is also one piece of Biorock that is a good few years old so is also live at this point. 2 of the rocks have a bit of coral growth on them...some blue and red shrooms etc

This latest TOTM from Reefkeeping Magazine is definately an awesome sight for those that love angels and sps. This guy has so many angels in his reef tank its quite amazing...the most interesting must be the 3 flame angels in 1 tank :)
