  I have a Solarmax 8 x 39W T5 unit for sale. The unit has individual reflectors and comes with a hanging kit that fits tanks up to 1000mm in length.
  
  The unit comes with 8 giesseman globes (Used for 2 months, still good for at least another year as giesseman globes are rated for 24 month life).
  
  4 x Aquablue+
  1 x Aquapink
  2 x Actinic+
  1 x Pure Actinic
  
  The unit was purchased from TSR late December 2011 on the following special for R2799
  Christmas specials - Marine Aquariums of South Africa
  
  I've only used the unit for 2 months.
  
  With new globes the total for the unit and globes was R5000
  
  I'm looking for R3000 for the light unit and globes but reasonable offers will be considered.

  Hey Everyone,
  
  So some of you may have caught wind that I am planning a DIY led build.
  
  So here's all the details. List of components I have:
  

  1. Bridgelux 3W Royal Blue Led Stars
  2. Bridgelux 3W 12 000K White Led Stars
  3. Bridgelux 3W 6500K White Led Stars
  4. 60 Degree Optics
  5. 80 Degree Optics
  6. Dimmable LED Drivers (12 - 20 3W LEDS Each)
  7. Heat Sink
  8. Thermal Epoxy

  
  Alright so those are the main components. I've got all the wire and everything else.
  
  The heat sink I managed to get hold of is 600mm x 190mm.
  
  So here is where I need your input. How many leds should I use?
  (Tank is 1000mm x 600mm x 450mm High (Water Level: 420mm)
  
  Mainly keeping sps and clams.
  
  I've got plenty of each led but still am unsure of how many to use and more specifically how many of each colour?

  Huge problem: dangerous chemical imbalance

  Hey everyone,
  
  So it seems I've got a massive problem. I've been using tropic Marin bio calcium which is a balanced alk, calcium and magnesium supplement. When I fist started the tank my calcium was too high (500ppm), this was all down to the salt mix (seachem). I've been keeping my alk at around 8 and from previous experience with bio calcium this has kept my calcium and magnesium in the right range but now these are my readings:
  
  Alk: 8
  Calcium: 700
  Magnesium: 1800
  Salinity: 1.026
  
  What should I do to drop my calcium and magnesium without dropping my alk?
  
  Are these readings even possible?

  Hey Everyone,
  
  So I have been really quiet lately, but for good reason. I sold off all my equipment and livestock after the incident with the tick and flea spray that killed all my fish (almost 30 of them). I thought I wouldn't get another tank and would give marine a break for a while. Well that didn't last long. I moved into my own house and after a month without a tank I got withdrawal symptoms and decided to take the plunge again. So I built a new tank and stand by myself. Pretty much completely DIY for most of the stuff. Enough background now, here are the stats:
  
  Tank:
  
  Display: 1000mm x 600mm x 450mm (High) 10mm glass, polished and beveled edges, base inside tank. Black silicon. Rimless
  Sump: 900mm x 400mm x 400mm (3 compartments)
  
  Lighting: 8 x 39w T5 (All giesemann obviously)
  
  Lighting from front to back
  
  1 - Actinic+
  2 - Actinic+
  3 - Aguablue+
  4 - Pure Actinic
  5 - Aqua Pink

  Heaters: 300w Jager on separate temperature controller (Keeps temperature between 24-24.2C all the time)

  Substrate: 18Kg Seafloor grade Caribsea
  
  Live Rock: 25Kg pre-cured live rock

  Increasing Phosphates

  Hey everyone,
  
  I know this is a weird question but I need to increase my phosphates. I tested my water today and my nitrates are 5 but my phosphates are below 0.1. In order to decrease my nitrates I need to increase my phosphate level, with using the zeo method you can't decrease nitrates without the presence of phosphates. Is there any way to do this?

  So I was just thinking, I always see corals for sale and always seem to miss the sale. I was wondering how a coral auction will go down. Lets say I start a sale of a coral at R200 and then everyone can bid on the coral at say R20 increments, the person with the highest bid after 48 hours gets the coral.

  Electricity Usage

  So with the recent eskom price increases my electricty bill is around R9000 a month, which is crazy. I've worked it out and my tank contributes around R500 a month if my heaters run 24h a day. This is for a house with 5 people living in it with hardly anything on during the day, 2 geysers and only gas cooking appliances. Obviously there is something wrong, so just wanted to find out what everyone else is paying a month.
  
  I also found something very cool which I am picking up today. It is a wireless electricty monitor. It connects to your meter box outside and you get a lcd screen inside your house that runs on batteries. It tells you exactly how much electricty you are using at any given time and can plug into your computer to give you a minute by minute usage report for the last two years. It is also cheap at R660.   ULNS Running and Setup Cost

  Hey everyone,
  
  Seen as though there has been a lot of interest in ULNS/LNS, I thought I would start a thread to show how much it costs to run one of these systems. I'm going to use the NeoZeo as an example as that is the one I am most familiar with.
  
  Initial Costs:
  
  Reef Octopus / Reeftek ZF-140 Zeolith Filter Reactor: R1733.00
  NeoZeo Zeolite Media: R240.00/Kg
  MB7 500ml: R208.00
  Reef BioFuel 500ml: R208.00 or Bottle of Vodka R70.00
  
  The initial start up cost is then: R2251-2389 depending on which carbon source you decide to use. I use vodka as it is cheaper and lasts longer. This price is regardless of the size of your tank as you have to purchase these products initially
  
  Running Costs:
  
  The following will give a monthly running cost of the system per gallon of system volume.
  
  Zeolite media needs a 25% replacement per month. The recommended amount of zeolite media is 1Kg/100g.
  
  25% Zeolite replacement: R0.6/month/gallon
  
  Carbon source needs to be added twice a day, at the moment I am using 2ml a day.
  
  Carbon Source: R0.04/month/gallon
  
  Bacteria source needs to be added weekly at a rate of 5ml/50 gallons.
  
  Bacteria Source: R0.21/month/gallon
  
  Iodine needs to be dosed weekly or better daily. I dose a ml of Brightwell Iodion Liquid a day.
  
  Iodine Suppliment: R0.07/month/gallon
  
  Potassium needs to be dosed if you are using zeolite media as they remove potassium. I use Brightwell potasium solution.
  
  Potassium: R1.00/month/gallon
  
  Then once low nutrient have been reached you need to dose amino acids to keep your corals alive and happy. I use SeaChem reef plus as it is cheaper than the brightwells amino acids.
  
  Amino Acids: R0.35/month/gallon
  
  This covers the basic supplementation needed for running the NeoZeo method of ULNS. There is still colour enhancing supplements as well as general coral supplements. Whilst running a ULNS it is also vital that alk, calcium and magnesium be kept constant and in the required range.
  
  The total running cost of this system is then: R2.27/month/gallon. This is just a rough estimate though if anyone was interested.

  DIY Filling of C02 Bottle

  I've got a huge C02 cylinder in my garage that I use to fill my paintball gun cylinder. I was just wondering if I could use this to fill my C02 cylinder for my calcium reactor. I've got all the fittings as it is the same ones on a paintball cylinder.
