Morning to ALL.
I have been doing some reading and I am not getting a direct answer.
My tank is 350 deep and I am currently running 4 39W T5 tubes and it looks like the coralline algae on the rocks are not nice and pink anymore they are going white, does this mean I have too much lighting or to little?
I would guess to much as I can see the rocks where there is not as much light the coralline algae is still nice and pink.
So what do the clever guys think, is 4 39W T5's enough for this depth or too much

Hi All
I recieved this old little tank as a gift and was wondering it this can work as a type of nano...
Anyway, I need to find a DIY way of adding propper lighting, and will it be necesary to drill the tank for a little sump as well?

Tank rebuild

Hi All,
For those that do not know, I had a Fatal Base crack on my 3 foot custom tank, Not really sure why, the only thing I could think that would have caused this is the crack was right underneath the heater, Anyway, this forced me to speed up my little DIY tank builing project with some spare glass I had at home.
Please note this is a bit of a rush job as I have some corals surviving in a bucket..
But these are the tank Dimensions.
DT
101L X 450W X 350H
Sump (I know its small but will build a new one at a later stage)
28L X 22W X 17H Will have a small DSB
All is built and with some advise from DallasG I managed to drill the base and built the overflow.
Will try and post pics soon. -
Urgent help needed Tank Burst

Hi All
Please can someone tell me where in the sandton area or westrand area is someone that can drill a 10mm glass?
I got home last night to a very pleasant smell, the smell of the ocean, sadly for some strange reason my tank(Old tank) base cracked :eek: and yes, almost half the tank was on the flour.
Luckily I have a spare Base and just need it drilled.
Any body????? -

Question to you all, I have 2 X 220Lt custom 3ft tanks now I want to setup one as Marine show tank (Fish and Reef) and the other as a sump, Now I have been doing some reading and I believe I need a DSB and a skimmer, now the sump part will be DIY so how easy is it to setup?
The Sump and tank dimensions are
Sump 92.5cm L x 45cm W x 39cm deep
Show tank 101cm L x 45cm W x 45cm deep.
How should I split the sump and what size skimmer might I need?
Any advise will be great .:) -

Hi All.
I am really new to the Marine aquarium part of the Hobby I currently have 2 Tropical tanks and I am planning on converting the one to Marine but I need to as a question, so here it is ,
I want to start a Marine aquarium, Fish and Live rock if I can.
It is 200lt tank the Dimensions are L-108cm X W-43.5cm X H-43.8cm.
I have a spare standard 3 foot tank that I want to use as a Sump, but I need to have an idea of how big to make the compartments in the sump.
That is if the 3 foot tank will work as a sump?
Does anybody have any idea or plans for a sump like this?
I am not sure what filtering I would need so the more advise I can get the better?
Any Ideas?
1 more stupid question, what is the basic most basic hardware I will need to start the Marine tank?
I know I need a Protein Skimmer (anything specific)
I know I need some form of Current in the tank (anything specific)
and I know I need the tank,sump and Lighting, anything else? -

I am really new to the whole Marine Aquarium idiea really interested although I am still in the research phase, I currently have 2 Tropical tanks and I want to convert the one to Marine but I obviously have no idiea what basic equipment I might need( can anybody give me some advice? )
Anyway I am sure I will learn what ever I need on the Net and on the forum but as you all know the more advice the better.
Lastly high all and thanks guys for a really cool forum as I have been doing a lot of reading and there is a lot of knowledge here.
