  Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
  
  Below is what I have been able to put on paper. Its pretty basic at this stage. Inspiration was taken from Marius's 5 footer - Marine Aquariums of South Africa
  
  Total System volume will be about 1100lt
  DT area = 1.4 square metres
  Total DSB area = 1.7 square metres
  
  
  
  
  
  Flow will go from the DT down to skimmer (Big Red Box) then top DSB to bottom DSB and back to DT.
  
  The idea was to maximise the dsb area and include an ATS. I hope to eliminate the need for any chemical filtration in this way. Big red skimmer is based on ths size of a a Vertex A300.
  
  Things i have to include somehow but space is limited:
  1. RO reservoir
  2. ATS
  
  A frag tank in the sump would be nice.

  Damaged Coral Beauty

  Hi guys and gals,
  
  Just yesterday I was looking at my Coral Beauty and thinking how much it has improved since January. Then this afternoon the lights came on and this is what greets me :eek::eek::eek:
  
  
  
  
  What could have done this??
  
  
  
  The only other tank inhabitants are as follows:
  1xPercula Clown
  4xBlue/green Chromis
  1xcleaner shrimp
  and my prime suspect
  1x coral banded shrimp
  
  He is quite big, and aggressive. Could he cause the damage seen in the fish above?
  I actually happened to take this pic as he was approaching the clown. During the day he sits under his perch accept during feeding. But at night he is all over the show.

  Overflow media

  Hi people of MASA,
  
  My tank has a corner overflow which has some media in it but as I purchased the tank already running, i am not too sure whether it should stay there.
  
  The media is a layer of filter floss on top of ceramic rings. Due to the setup of the tank and the cupboard standing next to it, i can no longer see into the side of the tank, nor can I easily reach into the overflow without removing the hood and lights.
  The sump has a skimmer, followed by DSB and Cheato Ball (size of an orange), followed by Phosban reactor and return.
  
  At the moment the water flows down the media into a hole to the sump. I would like to remove the media (over a period of about 4 weeks) and install a Durso Stand Pipe, but I am affraid that i cause havoc in the tank.
  
  My thinking is to include a ATS in the sump but i will have to redo the plumbing so i figure why not just include a durso as well.
  
  So basically i would like to know if i should skip the Durso and keep the rings, or put in a durso and chuck the rings?

  Hi everyone, I am looking to upgrade my Aqua Medic Turboflotor multi SL as it is not skimming nicely and needs daily adjustments. So here are two which i think would be a decent improvement. Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated. Tank: is about 300litres with about 30kg LR and a DSB, 4 Chromis, 1 Clown and a Coral beauty. I feed flakes twice a day and coral food twice a week.

  As some may know i bought a mature tank a month ago and this baby makes me nervous as i am relatively new to marine. It turns out he is not so difficult to keep happy but i dont want my tank to revolve around a single specimen.
  It is eating well and has not detached from its LR since i have had it.

  Preparing Coral Skeletons

  Hi people,
  
  I was given a box of coral skeletons which i thought would make for some nice scaping in the future.
  They have apparently been in a box for about 10 years (Maybe going on 20 :eek:)
  What would i need to do to them in order to use them in the tank?

  Adding sand??

  Hi guys and gals,
  
  I have a sand bed in the sump which is 6cm shallow. Being used as a refuge at the moment for a mildly agro Six Line, some LR and Cheato ball.
  
  After some research i found that adding sand to a DSB has to be done very slowly.
  I have roughly 24kg of sugarfine aragonite that needs to go into this DSB. Adding 24kg at a cup or two per week seems like an EPIC waste of time.
  
  As my "DSB" is not really a true DSB at the moment, cant i just add all the sand at once? Or will this cause a tank crash?

  Marine newbie here looking to move away from fresh water tanks and lose my hard earned money keeping a small box of a few marine fish alive. :thumbup:
  
  Keeping the tank happy will probably be the easy part. Keeping the wife happy may prove a little bit more intricate. :whistling:
