  Aiptasia Alert: Guys please take heed when buying LR in CPT

  This is just a warning to all newbies when buying LR from a certain LFS in CPT. I obviously cannot mention names, but when buying just scrutinize properly.
  
  I've now met 2 reefers recently with an aiptasia outbreak, both bought their LR from the same LFS :eek:

  SPS Frags - A Morning job well done !

  Phew, just finished quite a cull of SPS since 6am this morning. There is a nice mix. Monti, Digi, Crista, capitata, pink birdsnest, and blue tip acro. some others too.
  
  I'm letting them go at R70 per frag and will make up some frag packs.
  
  They will only be ready in two weeks time, so keep an eye out :-)
  
  And shipping, I dunno ? I'm hoping the CT reefers cleans me out.

  What T5 Lighting???

  I know this is an old topic, however:
  
  I have the aqua medic SUN, 6x 39w, I have a mixed reef, acro growing wild, other LPS and softies all doing great.
  
  My bulbs are about a year old and need replacing and I'm gonna go for Geisamann
  
  Please recommend combinations, I want the blues and fluorescents to pop.

  Heatwave we experiencing in Cape Town is playing havoc with my tank.
  
  All my acros, montis and other sps are bleaching badly, my nennie also on the prowl after not moving for 6 months.
  
  Temp on 31degs for the last week or so.
  
  Cape Town please cool down.

  Hi peeps, as much as I don't want too, but the time has come to frag my beloved torch coral, although my prized tank inmate ???
  
  If I had a choice I would just leave him be, but just getting too big and taken out my staghorn SPS in a chemical warfare battle.
  
  Before I embark on this delicate task I will appreciate ANY tips and pointers from anyone who has valuable experience to share. I've heard some horror stories about the skeleton breaking etc.. :-(

  FINALLY, I feel some confidence to showcase my tank to the professionals.
  
  Below are a couple of pics to date !!!!
  
  I HAVE A BIG 40x40x40 refuge at the bottom with ATS which I think really is helping.
  
  I only dose, ALK, CA and Mg + Amino Acids that's it !
  
  lighting 6 x 39W, 3 x White and 3 X Blue

  Desperately looking for tips to tune my RO XP1000SSS skimmer

  This skimmer is now 5 months in my system and driving me loopy, no matter what I do I just cannot get it to skim dry ??? surely by now it should be broken in ???
  
  Tried countless options, raised and lowered water level in sump, even tried closing the silencer a little with some prestic to make finer bubbles but to no avail.
  
  When water level sits low, I does build up but I can leave it for 2-3 days and no skimmate overflows ???
  
  ANY input or tips would be appreciated ???
  
  No problem in skimming wet, as seen below ???

  Called him on Fri as my TDS readings crept up to + 10, I asked him what was needed, he advised me exactly what I needed, he could have easily of sold me a RO membrane as I would have taken his word for it, but he did not.
  
  Goods arrived on Mon morning, fitted filters last night and TDS back to 0

  ALK and Calcium predictor spreadsheet for manual dosing

  Hi Guys,
  
  Thought I share my basic spreadsheet with anyone that might find this handy, It helps me quite a bit as I'm manual doising at the moment - ALK, Ca, Mg
  
  The spreadsheets helps predict what the levels of ALK and Ca should be on a daily basis.
  So when you miss a few days you could easily see what you need to add and what the change should be.
  
  The predictors takes into account daily tank usage and supplement additions and give a predicted water parameters.
  
  All you have to know is: (Below is for ALK only, Ca basically the same idea)
  
  1) What amount of supplement adds to your tank. In my e.g 1tsp of Alk (Seachem Reefbuilder) adds 0.7dkh
  
  2) Alk consumption pday, my tank consumes on average 0.5dKh p/day
  
  Put this in the spreadsheet and your ALK will be tracked whether you supplement or not your ALK should be predicted.
  
  Every time you measure and insert measured ALK the predicted ALK is updated.
  
  Miss a few days and you should know what to add and how much your ALK should be.
  
  Very basic but does the trick in helping me.
