In order to have prolific zoa growth is it predominantly feeding or light that will provide the best results.
What do you think?

Rowaphos, NP pellets and 2 TLF reactors.

Hi rowaphos and NP pellet users. Need to set up my new sump and this is one of the things I am doing, using 2 Two Little Fishies phosban reactors to run rowaphos and NP pellets .
Please advise, wanting to plumb 2 TLF reactors into one siccie 2700lt per hour pump (using a t piece and not daisy chain). The TLF 550 will run NP pellets and the TLF 150 will run rowaphos. Will there be sufficient flow for both reactors from this pump.
My tank is about 550lts. How much rowaphos do I run in a TLF 150 reactor. How much NP pellets in the TLF 550 reactor.
I do have a siccie 1200lt per hour pump if there is insufficient flow through the reactor used to run rowaphos.

1 July 2011. This will be my log of what happens when i frag my favorite rics. So I finally took the plunge, fraged my lumo green ric and a red/orange ric I traded for.
I had fraged a red ric/orange that I traded for a lumo green and a red Monti cap. This was done on the 28 June 2011. Cut this one into 4 pieces as I was very skeptical about fraging a ric, have had limited success with my red shrooms. So I checked how it was doing and to my pleasant surprise found 6 red/orange rics growing on 1 July 2011. This is what spurred me on to take the knife to my green ric on 1 July 2011.
Pics of my frag tools and other bits and pieces required.
Have had the lumo green ric in my tank for about 4 months and got impatient as it was not splitting. It was about 4 cm in diameter before the cutting started.

This is what it looks like after a introduction to mr scalpel from NipTuck (1/2 cm in diameter).
This is a brother of the red/orange ric in full glory.
I did a number of cuts, probably 15 pieces at least to the lumo green ric. Also just on a side note, not sure if the individual bubbles will develop. Had about 5 of these sitting separately on the cutting board and added them to the grow out tray. If they survive then rics are bullet proof.
The red one was then also cut up even further into another 10 pieces I guess.
Will be happy if some do survive. Hope all survive.
I placed the green ones on one side and the red ones on the other side, or at least I tried to. Pics, the green ones are easy to see, can see 10 of them from the best pic I took of the lumo green ones, but the red/orange I can only see 4 pieces. Please note that I realize the pics are not great, the frags are tiny, but heck if they end up like mum ric, then you will clearly be able to see.
Back in they go:
I also have a blue one, but this has only been in my tank for a month. It has attached nicely to a pice of rubble. If it is doing well in about 3 months time I will frag it. -

When you have some time available please explain how I can bring Dkh down. I would like it to stay at about 8. But advised as follows:
"Pierre your dkh is to high for a LNS and you salinity to low, for your type of tank you should be aiming at a salinity of 1.025/6 and a dKH of 6.8 to 7"
If I can get it to 6.8 - 7, that is a bonus.
I have a mixed reef and run pellets, would like lowish nutrient system.

SPS advice for novice

If you run SPS:
1. How many L's in your DT & sump each?
2. What do you dose? Brand you use and how much ml or grams?
3. How often do you test, do you test only, ca, mg and alk?
4. Do you find that SPS is science?
5. Are monti's and digitata more resilient than other SPS?
Reason being I was tricked, i tell you scammed :) by Broder into SPS a week ago and now I have many questions and am more nervous about my corals ability to survive in my tank.
My only real dosing I use is alk 8.3 into RO chamber. 1 teaspoon : 45 L RO each weekend.
6 drops of iodein on Wen & Sat
12 drops of mg on Wen & Sat
5 ml ca on Wen & Sat
Also Bioptim & digest on alterating bi monthly cycle.
I do test, found mg down on my last test so increased dosage.
When I grow up I wanna have SPS. :).
Am I on the correct path or should I be doing something different?
Also if anybody has advice on keeping SPS and reads this tread could you add your experience / advice / shopping list of non commercial treatments for dosing to this tread.
Thanks to all concerned SPS lovers, I have stick fever and don't want to get better ever again, so no referrals to doctors for this sickness please. :) -

Just going to ask questions regarding my pin cushion for now. I purchased from Adee a year ago, been in the nano and never grew any bigger. What should be done to promote it's growth in my 4 foot. can't upload from my phone, invalid file. -
Cleaning back glass? Yes or no?

A fellow great reefer came around, seen my new tank and suggested I leave the back glass to go through it's natural process.
Think he said it will go black first, then not to sure, but an array of changes, this will go on for about 2 years. Then the glass I hope will be nice and covered in coralline or clean on it's own.
What do you guys think, have any of you not kept the back glass clean and had good results, even if it is two years down the line.
Also if I do leave it I can move rock structures back a bit, that would be good in my opinion as at present I did leave a bit if space to facilitate the cleaning of the back glass.
It will however be a mission to clean.
Currently looks like this, have till end of month to make changes then my stock goes in from my nano.
So yes or no and why? Thanks reefers.

Alk dosing

Dosing mg (30 drops of brightwell) & calcium (cap of purple up 5 ml) & iodine (6 drops of brightwell) 2 x a week, wednesday & Saturday's. I do this in an attempt to keep my alk stable, its a new tank running from 22/12/2011. Is this ok to do this?
Also have brightwell kh buffer, in my sump I have a +- 50 l RO compartment for my auto top up, my question is should I mix RO with kh buffer & put into the auto top up chamber or not?
If yes then how do I go about doing this, system is about 510 l, DT is 430 & sump max capacity is 180 l, but only half full as it is a sump.
Should I also does the calcium, iodine & magnesium in the RO auto top up chamber on a Wed & Sat?
What concerns me is if I do it this way is that over time the concentration level of the products would build up resulting in poisoning my system.
Alternative is to fabricate a drip system for calcium, magnesium & iodine. But this would probably get blocked up soon.
What is my best course of action when it comes to stabilizing alk?
Or have I missed the boat completely . Lol
