  Hi all,
  
  I got a rose BTA as a birthday gift (in April) from the wife. My have always wanted one but have been hesitant to take the plunge so to speak. I'd like to check with you on his condition etc. My system is 800l total woth 2 x 150 w (20 000k) MH's and a vortex for flow. Second one broken. It's been running for 2,5 years now and quite stable appart from Nitrates which have started to climb lately. When it was collected they could not get it off the rockmit was on so it came already attached. I placed the rok in my DT and he has not moved a millimetre since. He's foot is slightly in underneath a crevice in this rock and would like to get him to move off it.
  
  Does this mean he quite happy? The inner (central to mouth) tenticles are plumped up and full bodied but the ones on the outer edge are thin and 'deflated'. Is there a reason for this or could it be that the rock is irritating it? Could it be too far from the lights?
  
  I feed him every 3rd day with a piece of chokka and he takes it in quickly. I fed a piece of muscle and he reacted very badly by deflating and releasing it after a while. Was fine the next morning. What is their prefered cuisine?

  Skimmer pump mod - works very well

  Hi all, I stripped my skimmer over the weekend to clean all the parts as a critter got stuck in and blocked one of the air inlet pipes on the venturi. When putting it back together I looked at the pump housing and came up with an idea to improve the water flow from the chamber where the impellor runs in to the outlet pipe. I don't know if this has been done before but here's what I did. I applied some silicone to the side side of the outlet / return spigot of the impellor casing which creates a 'scoop' to direct the water into the outlet. It works amazingly well as I have never seen the chamber so filled with bubbles before. The foam head in the tube below the collector cup is much larger than before which indicates to me that this realy works.

  Auto top-up

  Hi all, I'm looking for some advice as to acheive the following auto top-up DIY unit. My RO unit is positioned in the roof space above the DT. The water must feed to a float activated valve into to container in the roof. Similar in workings to a toilet cistern but the water must not dump into the container, it must be piped to the RO unit and then back to the container. I have a second float valve in the sump under the tank connected to the container. So if the tank needs top-up the float in the sump will drop to open and release RO water from the roof container under gravity to the sump. It's float will in turn drop and open to release water from the mains, via the float valve through the RO unit back into the container.
  
  All very simple appart for the float valve in the container in the roof.
  
  Any ideas where I can find such a thing?

  Transkei trip

  Hi all,
  
  I'm going on my long awaited return trip to the Transkei coast in December. Staying at the Anchorage and White Clay. As I'm making the trip from Cape Town, I'd like to make it as worth worth while as possible and visit as many cool spots as possible. So if anyone knows of a good spot or 5 to snorkel for specimens, I'd appreciate some info.

  Who's eggs

  The other day I came home to find a large slime coated layer of small round red eggs covering a rock of pollyps. The current pulled pieces off which was blown around the tank. Non of the fish seemed to pay it any notice. Who could have laid these eggs? Looking at the volume it could only be a few possibilities
  
  Yellow tang & regal tang - not likely?
  Clown - probably not as it is not all that large (2 years old)
  3 chromis
  strawbery dottyback - constantly looks 'pregnant'
  
  
  I also have a sea hare but seems very unlikely due to the precise egg placement amoung the feathery pollyps.
  
  Any thoughts as to who's playing house?

  Pods gone

  I have chaeto in sump which used to be filled with pods. When the DT lights go off, the pods could be seen crawling all over the LR and arragonite similar to ants on the ground. I harveted chaeto this weekend and could not find any pods, not one, nada, zip! What could have caused their dissapearrance?

  My leaf wrasse

  I caught this guy in the Transkei. Then, he (or she) was less than a centimetre long with that amazing 'swimming' action distinctive to the leaf wrasse. He is almost 2 years old now and looking absolutely stunning. So I thought I'd post a few pics (as we do love pics).

  Bali polyps missing

  Hi all,
  
  I purched a piece of LR with bali polyps on it. It's been in my tank 1,5 weeks and all the polyps have dissapeard! My wrass rolled the stone around for the first few days but then I wedged it down to prevent this. I noticed them getting less and thought it might be too close to the light and moved it down to the bottom. I now have an expencive stone :(. Anyone got specific advise as to what went wrong?
