This morning I received a urgent call from a customer whos neighbour was in need of some desperate help with a fish tank that had burst.It turns out that the tank is in a hair salon right across the road from me, so off I go to have a look see what all the fuss is about. Well to my surprise I find a full on reef tank settup full of lovely live rock T5 lighting the works with bath water in it and some realy realy large oscars swimming around. To be honest when I first saw it all the fish were in the sump and the display was empty. This tank is lovely in size 1.2 x 800 x 700 and built from 10mm slate, the leak was cuase by the incorrect wood being used for the base and it had swollen and cracked the base of the tank. I informed the customer of what exactly they have and what the potential could be and they are now interested in going marine with this system but guys what I want to know is what do I do with these other fish, they are 2 huge oscars about 20cm long and 2.5inch girth , 2 x malawis about 12cm long and one other fish that apears to be a small koi about 12 cm long. I am not in the fresh water game at all so is their a market for these fish ?

Guys I am tenatively going to make my Navarchus available he is a stunning fish but just not my absolute peak of the bunch and the rest of the family agrees. He is super healthy and although many say this species is very shy I couldnt disagree more this fish is definately not shy. He swims with some monster size Pomacanthurus, Zebrasoma and Acanthurus so he is very much used to the company of big dominant fish. He is now in the 9 - 10cm range. He comes from a good proven supply source and have had him for a few months now. I am looking at R1300

LFS keeping sharks

Guys there are many species that are inappropriate and you can ask some guys who know me I can bend these rules some becuase I have alot of experiance with some of these inappropiate species. But where I draw the line is Sharks!!! I was at a LFS yesterday and they had 2 sharks there which were not pre-ordered just ordered as normal stock someone at this store told me that one customer is coming to pick them both up in a few days. So I asked about the tank if they knew what size tank he had, yes replied the guy he bought the tank from us a year ago one of these and he pointed to a 1.2m tank similar to a aqua H2o but a different name. This is crazy and very irresponsible for LFS to stock sharks.

Acanthurus Bariene acting very strange

I have noticed over the last few days that my Barriene is acting very strange he is bobbing his head out of the water about 4 times in and out, he does this every 2 hours aprox. Its almost as if he is trying to gulp for air and then swimming around until he does the same again. Has anyone ever seen this from a fish before?

Hey Guys I don’t think I have shown this tank here on MASA and its been running now for a few months now and at the point were I am happy to show it off in public. I have had an absolute jol deciding on and acquiring the fish that I have so far, based on my own tastes and there are still a few more to be added in the next few months. I have recently redone the cabinet of this tank aswell as my 1.2m tank at the same time using the same wood so they match up well.
