Hi, I'm looking for a type of shock absorbent material that can be used inside a saltwater tank.
Anyone have any ideas? I thought styrofoam, but after some research, found that it breaks up/down in saltwater.
Thanks

Krisjan pulls into a service station in his battered bakkie, Clad in tattered khakis, velskoene, whiskers and ragged hat. He Hands the attendant the keys complete with a beautiful Vierkleur flag.
Krisjan: "Goeie more. Maak vol met Super, asseblief." (Good morning. Fill up with super please)
Attendant: "How much?"
Krisjan: "Vol asseblief." (Full please)
Attendant: "I only speak the English!"
Krisjan: "Noooo problem.... Good day to you, Sir. I currently feel a profound desire to replenish the propellant of my motorized vehicle. Therefore, i cordially request you to transfer, from your subterranean reservoir, a sufficient quantity of combustible fluid of the highest octane rating to fill the appropriate receptacle of the said means of perambulation to the brim."
Attendant: "Hau?"
Krisjan: "Do you have a problem, Sir? I thought you said you spoke English?"
Attendant: "English.....that, she is not English!"
Krisjan: "My dear Sir, are you veritably attempting to insinuate that you do not even recognize the language which you allege to be your singular means of communication?"
Attendant: "Hau?"
Krisjan: "Let me attempt to elucidate in the most elementary terms; your paltry grasp of the English vernacular is frittering away the time at my disposal or as I would put it, in a more civilized intelligible language......
Dit is fo**en duidelik dat jy FO**OL van Engels weet. So, kry jou slapgat in rat en maak hierdie bliksemse kar se tank vol voordat ek hier uitklim en jou sommer moer, want jy mors my donnerse tyd!!!! (It is clear that you know nothing about English. Get your lazy backside in gear and fill this car up before I get out and hit you because you're wasting my bloody time - expletives left out)
Verstaan jy nou?!! (Do you understand now)
Attendant: "Ja Meneer. Vol Meneer? Afrikaans is beter Meneer". (Yes sir, full sir? Afrikaans is better sir).
Krisjan: "Dankie!" (Thank you)

Hi, I am planning a new tank 2100mm x 1000mm (w) x 650mm (h)
I intend to stock the following fish.
20 x Talbot damsels
1 x yellow tang
1 x purple tang (If I can get hold of one)
1 x Naso Literatus
1 x Fire goby
1 x Purple or Magnificent Fire goby
1 x Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus)
1 x Powder Blue Surgeon
1 x snowflake moray
6 x cleaner shrimp
2 x pepperment shrimp
various snails and an urchin or two
The corals will mainly be sticks. I intend to do a 2.4 x 1m wide skylight, supplimented by 4 x 80w T5's (Actininc)
Flow will hopefully be 2 x 40 000lph Polario's
Will this fishlist work and what else do I need to consider.
Any comments and critique are welcome

Don't know if you guys picked this up on MoneyWeb. I just caught a glimpse and the future looks dark. Kortbroek are planning to ban all saltwater import (corals and fish). The imposed ban will also strive to stop people from keeping such animals.
I'll see if I can find the link to the article again.
I really hope this is not true....

Hi, have any of you ever used Sera Bio Nitrivec to lower nitrates?

On a 2m tank keeping sps and lps (don't crucify me, it's not my tank :P) What would be best? A tunze 7000lph pump x2 or a tunze 12 000lph pump x 2

Heya everyone. I have this crazy idea of using a windmill to create random surge/current in my tank. Anyone ever did something like this ?
Basically the idea is to have it draw water from the sump and push it back to the main tank. The random part comes with the wind and what could be more random than wind blowing?
Any ideas, drawbacks or possible advantages?

Hi, something for the chemical guru's.
I have it that pH and alkalinity are directly related to each other. So if your pH = 8 then your alkalinity = 8.
So what we are actually testing in our systems is carbonate hardness or kH.
Why are everyone calling it alkalinity?

Hi, is it possible to set user prefered colour schemes? I really liked the old look and the new one is kinda dull for a lack of a better description.

Hiya,
Do you guys/gals think 5 yellow tangs in a 2.1m x 1m x .65m tang will be okay? They will share the tank with either a school of goldies or a school of chromis +- 10.
If the 5 yellow tangs will be okay, they will be the only tangs in the tank.
Other intended fishes are
1 x Green Manderin
1 x Fire goby
1 x Purple Fire goby
2 x False Percula clowns (Amphirion Occelaris)
1 x Six line Wrasse
2 x Pyjama cardinals or 2 x Banggais if I can get hold of them

Hi, I'm at one of those stages where I have to make a choice. I want too keep some possible not reefsafe fish and I want to have a reef tank.
I have 2 options. A 2.1m x 0.8m x 0.65 full blown reef tank and leave the not so reefsafe stuff or two 1m x 1m x 0.65m cubes, one reef and one FOWLR.
What whould you guys/gals suggest and what would be your reasoning behind your choice?
