Hi All
As some will now from the thread
Snow in Harrismith - Page 2 - Marine Aquariums of South Africa that there was a ship that drifted ashore during a storm last week.
Well my brother-in-Law has just flown past at low level and he has confirmed the ship is now spilling crude oil quite badly.......This is not good!
I really hope that the the spillage can be contained to minimize the impact, but he has already confirmed that some Dolphins and Turtles in the area appear to be effected.
:(

Hi All
Popped into my LFS in Hillcrest yesterday to find them unpacking a new range of products, it was the full range of the Red Sea Reef Care Program supplements.
There was quite a bit of interest amoung the reefers in the shop and I was wondering if anyone has tried/tested these products yet? As you can see on the link above there are quite a few supplements availible, I would image one would have to use the relevent products together to get the best results?

Hi all
I'm looking at getting a second lens for my 500D to compliment the STD 18-55 IS lens, I'm wanting something with a bit of zoom. I would like to do some sports and wildlife photography. I'm still busy saving up for it, but would appreciate some input in the interim.
What I've been looking at:
55-250 IS - R2700
75-300 USM - R2500
70-300 IS USM - R5200 (the one I like :))
28-135 IS USM - R4500
If you guys know anyone selling a good s/hand, please let me know, as I'm on a tight budget!
Thanks

HI all,
I was lucky enough to be part of an awesome tank tour on Thursday night, It was organised by my local LFS in Hillcrest (Nigel and Ralph, it was ).
The tour started off at the LFS and took us to 5 tanks in the area. I must say, the tanks were AWESOME!!! Good going guys ;)
So I thought I should share some of the pics....
PS: Some of these tanks are MASA members, but don't think they want to be named, if you would like to come forward, its their choice.

Hi All
The October meeting well be held on Tuesday the 26th, just after pay day:peroni:
We will be watching a fragging video by Eric Borneman, a well respected aquarist. The video covers mainly SPS and LPS, unfortunately little softies, however it is very informative!
The video is about 70min long, but I'm sure we can make a break to refill those empty glasses and :peroni::peroni::peroni:.
See you chaps there!

Hi Marco
Was working on the pool today, had to change the filter sand (Thank goodness I had a wet/dry vacuum, just sucked the sand out;)) but was thinking, can we not run a Ozone machine on our pools to help keep it clean and reduce the usage of chlorine? not that I have had any problems, I just add a floater every month or so and I my water stays crystal clear, just curious.
Thanks

Hi Scott
My mother has a TS4 skimmer which 2 of the 3 pumps have failed, I was thinking of instead of replacing the 2 OTP 2000 (3rd would probably follow soon) I was thinking of installing a HY5000 or HY3000 blaster pump, the dia on the neck is not all that big comparred to the RO-PS 5000INT which is 150mm, so think the HY5000 may be a bit big?
Any advise would be appreciated!
Thx

Hi All
I've looking for the front cover pieces (the parts that support the shaft), its for my mothers skimmer, for some reason the impellor has chewed it away and it has collapst.
So if you have a dead pump I would really appreciate it if you could spare me the parts.
Thanks
Justin

Hi All
I'm thinking of building a peristaltic pump for my dosing, I feel the price on the OEM units are a rip off, so I'm thinking of building my own.
The basic design idea is the following:
A uC (microcontroller) with LCD will serve as the controller, which will drive some stepper motors with a DIY "roller block"
I would love to hear if anyone else has attempted this before?

Hi all
I tested my RO water the other day to find it has a pH of 9.4, this along with a TDS of 25 thought I need to replace my filters.
I changed my pre-filter about 2 months back so I just got a new membrane from Water Boy. after flushing it I've tested my new RO water to find it now only has a TDS of 2, but it still has a pH of 9.4:whistling: thought this was funny so tested the tap water and it has a TDS of 84 and pH of 9.
I'm now confused, isn't RO meant to be about 7 or just below? Isn't 9 extremely high for tap water?
Where to from here as I'm worried that the high pH may damage the new membrane? how do I get it down?
PS, as I'm using RO though a Kalk stirrer, with a pH of 9 I don't think the kalk is dissolving into the water?
