  hey guys i have some aragonite id like to remove from my system and replace with a finer substrate..
  
  approx 25kg will be removed (i have 50kg in my system)
  
  full of life so wating to basically swap for a bag of caribsea fine aragonite..
  
  i think it would be a waste to dry it out so offering here....

  Skimz SM202 Protein Skimmer (pump not working and busy with warranty claim on this for NEW "Improved" impellor)
  
  Skimz calcium reactor (new never even touched water) including all acessories to function such as:

  • Aqua Medic Solenoid
  • CO2 cylinder (currently empty)
  • Aqua Medic ph controller
  • Aqua Medic CO2 regulator

  Skimz FM100 fluidised bed filter for carbon or phos media, i used it as a biopellet reactor
  
  All items inclusive of Glass 10mm sump
  
  R10000, (price the items seperatley and you will see this is cheap)
  
  Reason for selling: I want to get my new sump built so house my vertex alpha 200 skimmer. and im currently not using anything but the skimmer of the current sump setup.

  Guys and Girls
  
  I am interested to know from those of you who own a Skimz product what you think of them,
  
  I am particularly interested in any faults the pumps and impellor have displayed.
  
  I will give more reasoning after I have seen the general response.
  
  Please offer your comment weather it be a skimmer carx or eden pump (which is the pump system which drives their aparatus)

  Skimmers and their rating as of 2012

  Guys i have seen alot of confusion wrt the newer skimmers coming into the market which have conservitive ratings and thus seem inadequate for a system when specifications are concerned,
  
  Eg: a Vertex Alpha 170 is rated for 850lt but we know it can pull substansially more much vs a OCTX200 rated for around 900lt
  
  I wonder how we could form a standard by which a skimmer can be rated, there is alot of speculation with very little fact to back it up.
  
  I would assume the criteria to review woule be but not limited to:
  

  • Operating depth (internal models)
  • Pump and airdraw capacity
  • sps rating vs softies rating (i like this measurement factor as it gives a greater scope for a skimmer for varying applications/budgets)

  I dont want to get too scientific but im trying to simplyfy the whole skimmer purchase for newbies and advanced reefers alike,
  
  It seems the rule of thumb of advising double the capacity skimmer in relation to your system capacity can make a skimmer purchase a seeminly nightmarish outlay amount to anyone in the market.

  Guys this is a difficult topic as we are all well intentioned individuals and want the best for our fellow reefers starting out
  
  BUT
  
  i cannot see the sence in trying to advise a student for EG to purchase a expensive piece of equipment when they cannot comprehend its importance and they will certainly not understand why they are able to get a simular product "cheaper" (jebo, boyu you get) my drift.
  
  maybe the question was asked in the wrong manner but we need to assess the situation and go with what is needed as a minimum and then build on it from there..
  
  i am the first person to promote the use of an oversized skimmer for eg on the smallest of tanks, its my belief that it is extreemly important to have one rated at least double the total system capacity.. but if i cant afford a top end skimmer i will be looking at something in my price range that claims to do a simular capacity
  
  now
  
  is there not a way we can get these ridiculous skimmers off the market?
  i still see people being conned into buying jebo's and it will continue to happen untill somebody puts a regulation in place..
  
  i dont want to make the hobby unaffordable but i would like to see the right product correctly specified for the correct volume and intended purpose..
  
  there must be something we can do

  im needing a good suggestion for a DVD to purchase for my kids.. my children adore marine life and are glued to the oceanworld 3d dvd they got as a gift earlier this year.. i have heard fantastic reviews from people over the Blue planet dvd collection.. but generally from non reefers...
