so got a neon blue goby from the lfs yesterday. And they bagged the wrong fish and instead of torturing the poor thing i bought him or her as well. ok so now the question *** is it?

Umhlanga rock pools... What's available

Good day KZN reefers. I am flying down on Thursday to Umhlanga and was interested to know what is on offer in the umhlanga rock pools and what can be collected there...
Also what licences is required... I have the forms and want to know do I need to get the fishing licence if i am not going to fish? or can i just get the " Marine aquarium fish licence" ???? will this cover me under the law if i collect softies and hermits???

Good morning all Ok so i got this specimen and it has grown about 5 times the original the size in the last 2 months.... not sure can this be a torch or is this a plate coral.... on closer look it has a fleshy foot that is attaching it to the rock almost like a nemmie but it looks like boney growths amongst the tenticales that is pointing me in the direction of this being a LPS. and then last but not least..... i bought this frogspawn and got these tubes on my frogspawn that discharges this mucus in the water column... look like a snail of some sort living in the tubes .... are they good or bad

Copepod eating Flat Worm... ?

I saw on the net that these guys are classified as coped eating flatworms.. Looks alien to me and only come out when lights go out at night.... Anyone have any experience with these guys? Are the good or bad? -

Notes:Frags are all overgrown from parent colony and some attached with superglue... i have brown star and green stars available and some of the rocks have both green and brown stars on them... I am not looking at making any profit and swapping of frags will be better... if i have to take cash then the frags will be R30 for the single and R40 for the rocks with green and brown on them. Now that I have ytour attention... found some pics on the net whille searching coralline algae and came across some pics.... Would not mind this algae growing in my tank..... better than the green struff... better than some of the corals that I have seen....

Ok so this is my question? about live rock base rock and pelindaba rock... All advice will be welcome.... and critics please have a field day... shout if you must and big an bold and red if you like.
I hit a couple of snags and will be posting pics in the next 2 weeks or so with my whole adventure so far... All i can say it has been an adventure but loving every moment so far.... Cracked and broke some glass... almost destroyed my RO unit when I dropped it.... and a new tank and sump with leaks and problems.... but that is my fault supporting the small home based business who turns out to be a snake...
OK to get to my question.... I have 40 to 50 kg of live rock taking up all of the space in my 100 litre tank while i am in the process of getting my new tank up and running... I git a few pieces of Lava rock that is being seeded by the live rock as we speak...
I am looking for something special "rock" as a feature for my tank that will give me balance and height? I am not able to source such a piece "Rock" look at a box of small base rocks at over R1000 and it is nothing to write home about.... I have managed to find some Pelindaba rocks that are amazing in terms of shapes and crevices and holes through the rock etc.... When I saw these rocks I knew these where the pieces I was looking for..... I am thinking of building my tank around these rocks.... The LFS guy advised that I indeed can use the rocks but with the rocks not being Poureous the will never be live rock.... FYI did not buy from LFS... Phoned hime for advice
???? Can I use the pelindaba rock in the tank and have live rock at a ratio of 50/50 in the dt and and house LR in the sump as well.... HELP Please guys???:wave2: -

Ok so i have the power heads and the skimmers, vibration pumps, sump, tank and lights....
So my question is what else to get?
picked up my RO unit yesterday so it seems like I have most basic equipment....
Phosphate reactor? is it essential? what are the benefits? is it a must?
Carbon reactor? is it essential? what are the benefits? is it a must?
What else will you guys suggest?
Planning on Fish, live rock and some lps a nenny or two and some clams.
I would like to say thank you to all so far for all the advice and help.... It is great to hear all the views and opinions much better than going to a LFS and getting a sales pitch and buying for the simple reason becoz I can....:yeahdude: -

Howdy all... I was wondering about aquascaping and toiling around with the idea of using egg crate and sticking lava roack onto the structure off egg crate by means of glue, silicone and cable ties. Has any ony tried this? I am looking at making the rock I cant find .... Good or bad idea? :whistling: -

Ok Guys searched hi and low and now posts i can reference. so her goes paiting the back of the tank..... what paint to use? pva. gloss. oilbased... any make in particular what colour is best... sky blue, baby blue, ford cortina blue? ha ha ha.... do you paint the inside or the outside..... pretty sure it's outside just checking.... thanx for all the support so far guys -
Upgrade from 100l setup

Hello all. Currently I am running a 100litre setup been in marin for about 2 to 3 months now.... and the bug has bitten me big time:thumbup:. was running a small little corner unit 100 litres no sump. AS you all know we all want to go bigger and I just receieved my new 4 foot tank. dimensions are 1220x750x800 stand and canopy done in wood.... gee its scary just looking at it...... but i cant wait to see what it looks like and evolve over time. So will update fotos as I go along and kit it out over the next couple of weeks:yeahdude: -

Hello all. Just came back from leave been away for a week lost some fish while away.... POOR little tropical buggers did not make it... MARINE are all doing well and fighting fit no issues there... who said MARINE was difficult. anyway getting rid of the tropicals and concentrating on Marine due to space. I currently have a 35 litre setup for Hermits and liverock and a 100 litre setup with Liverock and fish.
My new tank I am having made will be a 4 ft extended hight and depth dimensions 1220 lenght 800 deep and 1000 in height. What i would like to know is what lighting is required as i am planning to get some soft corals

Hello all. MARINE is SO COOL. ALMOST as good as the BOKS winning the LIONS yesterday. LMAO USA is ahead 2 - 0 against Brazil who could have thought. My house is a little ZOO, A tree squirrel named pokkelkie, Toy Pom, 3 Hamsters a love bird that flew away, told my son the bird went on holiday to Durban he he he. and two monkeys my daughter and son Megan and Jayden. I have been running tropical for about 6 months now. and acquired my marine system 2 weeks ago. got the system from a guy who did not have the energy for marine so lucky for me everything was running for a while and did not have to go through the whole breaking in cycle. The system consisted of a 3 foot canopy that was cut away so the 4 foot lights can rest on the glass.... LMAO it looked bad. Protien skimmer with have of the parts missing. 2000lh powerhead, corner filter thinge mebob , heater that blew the first time i plugged it in HA HA HA. Live rock about 15KG's, Picasso trigger and a tomato clown and i got this all for the bargain price of R600.... or so i thought.... the next day R1800 later new canopy lights and some salt and tester kits, Thanx to the guys at the LFS store in little falls for advice and giving me a 2nd hand bust protien skimmer for spares. I was rearing to go. 14 days later and I still can't take my eyes off my tank. Very little TV and a lot of playing with my new toys. I transplanted the Marine tank to the Tropical and Vise versa. So now my marine tank is a corner unit with more depth and it looks great. will load some pics asap. Just managed to get an anennenenomommommy today for the clown, and guess what the clown is laughing all the way and not even going close to the anennneenommommy. Also got a Yellowtail damsel and a bicolor thingy mebob... it's yellow at the back and pink in the front... still new with the names. Anyway hope to learn a lot and meet some good people on this site. OOR en UIT WORS
