11000 litre Ascol Pump - R1000
Great pump but decided to split the supply of my reactors and chiller and thus got a smaller DC pump that can do battery backup.

DIY Pause relay for return pump - R250
Works perfectly, but with the new return pump connected to my controller its no longer need. 6min pause function.

Advice re Tunze streams

Hi Guys

I have 4 Tunze 6205 streams on a controller. What is the best placement and program to run them on?

My tank is 1.8m X 1m x 0.8m. The reef runs right accross the middle of the tank with most of the SPS on the right hand side. Some LPS and softies.

Price Fixing

It has come to my attention that there is a new wholesaler trying to carve themselves a piece of the aquarium trade and some may have associated myself with them. I just wish to confirm that I have no relationship with them and the previous thread with this topic has nothing to do with them.

In any event it appears that the pricing change I was referring to was an outdated special price - 2010.

Competition is good but it has to be ethical and fair.

I apologise if I offended anyone, but this is not personal and I have no ulterior motive.
Price fixing

Hi Guys

Having been an aquarist for 5/6 years now and having setup 3 tanks, I notice that price fixing is a huge problem. We have a large distributer in SA representing several brands that enforce "recommended" selling prices.

I have recently pointed out to some local retailers that another retailer is offering the product at a cheaper price than them only be to told that the cheaper retailer's price is wrong and the website is being teared down.

Is this practice not breacing our competition law? I would like to submit a complaint to the competition commission as the retailer should be able to sell at whatever he price he chooses to.

What do you guys think?

Alkalinity - 7.5
Calcium - 450
Magnesium - 1300
pH - 7.65 to 7.85
Salinity - 1.0025
Temp - 25 to 26 deg celcius
What lighting is over the tank?
8 x 54w T5 Powermodule
Pumps and equipment
2 x Tunze steams - 22000 litres
1 x AM Prop - 15000 litres
Phuture lab Skimmer rated for bigger tank that works very well.
In-sump cryptic DSB.
calcium reactor
kalkwasser stirrer

Maintenance
Weekly water changes with synthetic salt - Seachem.

Lamps are about 10 months old. Started changing them last week - 2 per week.

Over the last couple of months my purple milli has become lighter and lighter in colour. Please see pic below. This is the only SPS that appears to affected.

I am now worried. Is it that my lamps need changing or perhaps the pH is too low?

This morning I added some Seachem buffer to up the pH and will try to get it above 8.0.

Chiller Question

Hi Guys

Need help with my chiller setup. It works well but I think there may be a problem because either the flow is too low or the chiller is getting too hot outside. I have it covered in a plastic dog kennel with loads of holes to vent the hot air.

I have set the temp to 26, so when the temp in chiller gets to 27 it switches on and when the temp drops to below 26 it switches off. My problem is that it is constantly switching on and off within minutes.

The chiller switches off when the temp gets to below 26 (tank temp is always in the range 26 to 27). Then within a minutes the chiller temp rises (sometimes to 28) and it switches on. Within minutes the temp is reduced to below 26 and the cycle continues tike this. During this time the tank temp is very stable and below 27. I would expect that the chiller should not switch on.

Chiller feed is split from return pump in sump and from chiller goes directly to display tank.

I hope I made myself clear above.

Chiller Refrigerant Question

Hi Guys

Due to the hot weather and my tank reaching 30 deg, I have invested in the Hailea HC1000B Chiller.

Read the manual and I see that it uses the R22 refrigerant that is being phased out. Is this going to present a problem in the future? Will the refrigerant need to be replaced? Is there a substitute refrigerant that can be used?

On the website it says "our chillers-the HC series use the environmental friendly refrigerant R134a" in the product description, but the technical data refers to R22.

What is correct? $£%$ CHINESE

My Bow tank is for sale now that my new tank is running. Great starter tank in my opinion. Just got too small for me. Includes cabinet, hood and sump (50 litres). Very strong 12mm and the corners are not bent glass but siliconed. Rear overflow. R2750.

Also, have:

3 Boyu streams with controller (2 yrs old) - R500.
3 dual T5 electronic ballasts (3 yrs old) wired with 6 lamps (6 months old) and reflectors - R1000.
AM Wave with light sensor - R1500. Runs 3 flow pumps (used them on my tunze nano's) plus return. Pauses all for feeding. Also works on Sun Sun's.

Collection only for tank. Buyer pays for shipping of other accessories.
